On 2004-07-14, Golf Nut 2 rated this MacGregor V-Foil M42 a 5...(3881)

Purchase: I tested the newest drivers from Cleveland, Cobra,Titleist and MacGregor on the driving range and after a lot of shots, it was clear that the V-Foil was the shortest by 5 to 10 yards but also the straightest of the group. No matter where I hit it on the face, the ball went dead straight. I purchased this club at Progolfwarehouse for $189.00 with the Aldila NV75 stiff shaft. At that price, it was a bargain I couldn't pass up.
Pros: This is the easiest to hit driver I have ever used. The 10 degree stiff shaft version only needs to be hit somewhere on the face for good results. The club looks very good from the address position and the dark color is very traditional. This club sets up very nicely and makes alignment easy.
Cons: There are two areas that could cause some to think twice about this driver. First is the noise at impact--it is very loud. The sound is almost like an aluminum baseball bat. The second concern is the distance. I wasn't looking for more distance but for more forgiveness. This driver is not quite as long as some others. Although not a lot shorter-I am losing about 10 yards-it is a lot straighter. If you are struggling with distance, this might not be the one for you.
Quality: The V-Foil is a quality club from a quality manufacturer. The finish on the head is excellent. There are little extras that you don't always see on a club. There are two alignment guides (white marks) on the grip and a nice "V" medallion on the butt end. Overall a very well constructed club.

Review Summary: If you are looking for a bargain priced, top notch driver from a respected manufacturer, this is the club. This club can help you hit it straight and pretty long.
