On 2006-03-14, L. Hunter rated this MacGregor 1025C V-foil a 5...(6721)

Details: s300

Purchase: A friend of mine played 1025's and I had hit them a few times, liking them very much. I was not in the market for new clubs, but saw a set on Ebay - made a ridiculous low offer and got them for $350.00. I have now had these clubs for about a year and a half.
Pros: Essentially, these are cavity-back blades. They have a small head and thin profile that appeals to me at the address. They are a bit lower in trajectory than the Mizuno's (MP30's) they replaced. When struck well, this irons produce a beautiful clicking sound and a pure buttery-feel. For me, when trying to work the ball, they are bit easier to draw than they are to fade.
Cons: I did not like the Macgregor grips that came with these clubs. They felt thin and tackless. I changed them for Lamkin Crosslines.
Quality: Cosmetically, these are beautiful clubs, right up there with Hogans. My only problem with the quality of these clubs had to do with a few of the ferrules coming lose. However, a touch of epoxy has solved the problem. As with any forged iron, these tend to scratch easier than casts, but they have stood up well over the past 11/2years. They hold their looks better than the Mizunos I had. These are beautiful clubs that I still get comments on from other golfers.

Review Summary: I will never be a long hitter. I gave up on that years ago. As a finesse-feel type of player, I am not one to change clubs often. In the past I have had a sets of Taylormade 300's and Mizunos. These Macgregors are the easiest to hit of all these past clubs. I recently went to the annual golf fair and hit several newer blade type clubs (Nike, TA 7 Tour, and Calloway X-Tours). Although all were very nice, these older model Macgregors were easier to hit, and in most cases just as workable, I'm about to bid on a new set (there are still a few new sets out there) in the $250 range. For about a fourth of the price of late model blades, I'm going to be set and satisfied for another 1-2 years.

Went to the range yesterday to practice. Took the new 9.5* driver to test it out. I hit it a lot better than I figured I would with that factory insta
