Purchase: Was hitting balls at my local driving range/pro shop, another attempt at improving my swing. Decided to take a demo club for a swing. I own Hogan Apex Plus' and wasn't really in the market for new irons, just curious and probably a little bored. You never know, it may be the equipment.
Pros: I couldn't believe how nice these irons were to hit. Obviously the first thing that hits you is how beautiful they are. The fit and finish is first rate, the gold diamond trim a nice touch as well as a tribute to days gone by. The 1025C's give the sensation of a pendulum when swung. Ball flight was mid/high, far and straight. No problem there. But I also had no problem inducing draws and fades on command, easier in fact than my Hogan’s. Long irons are fairly easy to hit, again easier than the Hogan’s, mid and short irons really shine. Short irons are not clunky like those that are a part of most "game improvement irons". Irons that offer the forgiveness that these do yet are able to work the ball makes for a great combination. Demo club had True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts, S300, but they also were displaying a set that were bought and immediately returned (DUH) with the optional Flighted Rifles added and lie set 2* upright. After a quick check on the lie board 2* was it, perfect fit. Hit them with the Rifles and more of the same as with the TT's, only better. The feel of these irons are much better than the Macgregor’s PCB's they have replaced. They have a MUCH softer feel, with none of the harshness on mishits that the PCB’s displayed. These are as solid as a iron gets. In fact that is where I was really surprised most. I didn't like the feel of the PCB's compared to my Hogan’s, but these feel better in every way than the Hogan’s. That says a lot, the Hogan’s are a fine set of irons.
Cons:
Quality: Jut looking at these irons you can see the quality and workmanship that has been put into them. They take a back seat to no one.

Review Summary: Ran a comparison with other cavity backed forgings, some which I had tried and given the thumbs down to before, like the Cleveland TA-3’s and others that really need to be auditioned to make a qualified judgment, like the Hogan Apex Pro, Mizuno MX-20 and the Cobra SS Forged. While I did like the Cobra's, they just were not a true competitor to the Macgregor 1025C’s IMO. The Mizuno MX-20 were just too much game improvement for me. Another nice line by the "new" MacGregor, keep up the good work!
