On 2004-03-03, Tom rated this MacGregor 1025cm Rifle 5.5 a 5...(2993)

Purchase: I bought this Brand New set on ebay for $509 shipped. It was the best deal on ebay. I was playing with Taylor Made RAC OS. I was in a market for a less stiff set of irons. I tried Titleist (which I think is the best), Ben Hogan Apex Combo, and Mizuno MP33. Titleist 690 CB and Macgregor were the best, but Titleist was too much for my budget.
Pros: The Macgregor 1025CM is a great great set of clubs. I love the idea of a combo set and forged steel. There is definitely a huge difference between cast iron and forged iron. The feel and feedback is incredible, even on mishit. However, since I got this set, it has improved my game by a huge margin. The clubs are very forgiving even on the muscle back short irons. I believe that most people can play with muscle back if they have the right brand club such as this 1025CM. I have not had any bad shots or ones that I was frustrated with. This is different with my Taylor Made. But I also believe that you must have the proper shaft, as everyone know is the engine of your club. I had a rifle 5.5, which is about regular. The cavity back long irons are very forgiving, I can hit my 3 iron very consistently and with no fear. The idea of combining cavity back and muscle back short irons is a great idea. I am a high handicap player, but since getting these clubs, I have improved my technique and striking. Lastly, these are very very beautiful clubs.
Cons: Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Quality: I don't know about the other reviewers, but I think these are very well constructed. It's a traditional looking clubs, but very beautiful to look at.

Review Summary: This set is beautiful and functional. I truely believe that any level player can benefit from this set. I do not work for Macgregor, just a new fan of their products. If you are in the market, take look at this set. You will notice the difference on a first hit.
