On 2006-05-01, Frankie Five-Angels rated this MacGregor Go-long V-Foil a 5...(6870)

Details: This club is available in 16 and 19 degree versions. I purchased the 16 degree club with a stiff shaft.

Purchase: I paid $25 (slightly used)on ebay, from golfetail.com. I, like many other golfers, struggle with my fairway wood. I love the distance of my 5 wood, but miss the accuracy and consistancy of an iron. I dream of getting on the green in two on long par 5s and in one on really long par 3s. I got this club as it was portrayed as great alternative to fairway woods and rescue clubs as being long, accurate, and usable from the rough.
Pros: This club is much more playable than a typical driving iron. Anyone not familiar with the Mac V-Foil irons, the V-Foil heel is very pronounced and rounded, yet, seemingly, hollowed out and not weighing the club down. The result of this feature is a club with great swing speed and a heel that helps prevent digging - almost to the extent that a fairway wood does. The face is oversized with a large sweetspot to aid in preventing misshits.
Cons: Nothing.
Quality: This iron is a forged, cavity back, game improvement type iron. It is a very good-looking club!

Review Summary: Looking for length with accuracy from the rough, fairway, or tee box - I found it with the Mac go-long iron, without having to learn a new swing like I would with utility type hybrids. I am now hitting about 230 yds with pretty reliable accuracy! Others I have been playing with have all tried it and speak very highly of it's usefulness when fairways are tight. I couldn't agree more. They all marvel at it's lack of weight for an iron!
