On 2005-09-07, chingali rated this Mizuno MP-001 370cc 8.5* a 5...(6164)

Purchase: I purchased this club with an Exsar 60 Stiff shaft on ebay second hand in pretty much as new condition for about $80, I was willing to go up to about $125 but when the auction ended at $80 I considered it a bonus! It was purchased as a replacement for a Snake Eyes 600Tj 10* with a proforce 65 Stiff shaft that had broken at the hosel. I quite liked the Snake Eyes driver but after it broke I decided to try something with a factory fitted shaft as I think the Snake Eyes driver had been retrofitted and I didn't want to run the risk of having another one break on me.
Pros: The number one thing I like about the MP-001 370cc is the way it sets up at address. It has a VERY solid look about it and it lines up very square, no hint of being slightly closed as I see with a lot of drivers. The other thing I like about it is the amount of roll and bulge on the clubface, anyone who has been playing as long as I have and remembers using persimmon headed drivers like the old Macgregor Eye-O-Matics will know exactly what I mean. Basically it is an up to date modern piece of equipment that looks a lot like the old "Classics" that I am more used to using.
Cons: I tend to hit this driver with a reasonably high ball flight, it's lower than the Snake Eyes 600Tj 10* was but this is no doubt due to the combination of shaft and 8.5* loft. Even still, I'd like to be able to hit it just a touch lower.
Quality: Construction appears to be fantastic as does the quality. If I had to use just one word to describe how I feel about this club, that word would be "solid". I have owned a few other clubs manufactured by Mizuno in the past and they always seem to be manufactured to very high standards.

Review Summary: Overall I like this driver a lot. I have used it for about 10 rounds now and in that time I have hardly hit a bad drive with it. It's quite long and seems to be VERY forgiving, either that or I have just been swinging better than usual lately. As an added bonus it also seems to be very workable, I can hit it left to right or right to left as I need to, something I have not been able to do for quite some time with these oversized woods.
