On 2006-10-05, Lampy47 rated this Nickent 3DX Genex a 5...(7455)
Details: T-Spec, 10 degrees of loft, Aldila 65 stiff,460cc, stock winn 17 grip.
Purchase: I bought this club used from Bob Martin's golf in London. (they are phenominal...very patient and give you good honest deals) I bought this club to replace a cheap no name club that I picked up at Sport Mart. I needed to get a consistant shaft to improve my accuracy off the tee. I paid 125 canadian and the club was in mint shape, only some very minor shop wear.
Pros: This club is just amazing. I wanted a top quality/high end club but I couldn't fathom paying top dollar for one. I love the price first off but really this club has all the technology available in todays drivers. It has the maximum head size (460cc), maximum hitting area (5'x2.8') and max core at .83. It's made out of a great Titanium alloy. It's called SP-700 and it's essentially a space age plastic titanium that is used in aircrafts. The alloy is known for being stronger, lighter and more durable. Basically it will resist fatigue longer than most. Then add in an Aldila NV shaft and I was set!!! this shaft is a good stiff club. I can take it easy and get a good hit or go after it and the club still holds up. The shaft doesn't feel bordie like Grafalloy Blue or the taylor made MAS2 shafts.
Cons: Possibly the grip but that's a $5 change up. The grip works but I think in rainy weather or cold this grip won't hold up. I will give it a chance before I peel it off...it is a Winn grip after all. I purchased the T-spec (tour spec) which I think will be good for me in the long run but right now the D-Spec (draw spec)would have been a more consistant club. Initial use with the T-Spec gives me a soft fade and I would prefer to have a soft draw. But some range and practice and i am sure I will be able to work this driver both ways. I avoided the D-spec because I don't like a high ball flight and I am convinced that I can groove a swing that doesn't slice. In the long run I want a good swing, not a bad swing that a good driver corrects.
Quality: Phenominal quality and construction. I haven't had it a long time but the face seems very resistant to marking and scratching. I have heard nothing but good things from Nickents product quality.
Review Summary: Mathmatically there isn't a club out there better for me. If I can't hit with the biggest and hottest driver available then I think I should pack it in. I will be keeping this in the bag hopefully for years to come.
