On 2004-04-19, Philip in STL rated this Nickent Genex Titanium Irons a 4...(3430)

Purchase: FYI-to save space>>> GT="Genex Titanium" Purchased the set (3-PW) for $549 as well as optional matching Sandwedge for $89 in summer 2003 from Golf Discount of St. Louis. I decided to go with a set of GT's because I had owned a "Nickent Big Hawk" entry-level set for the year prior and had been extremely impressed with the quality and forgiveness of the clubs. I extensively test-hit a set and decided that a size of +1/2u with steel SpeedTip shafts suited me best.
Pros: Many things ....despite what the first review states, I have had no quality related issues whatsoever with these clubs. The grips are some of the nicest I've seen on a factory set of irons(I read somewhere that the grips on the GT's are custom-made by golfpride for Nickent). As far as the important stuff (how they play)is concerned, I am also very happy with this set. The first thing I noticed is how well the elastomer insert dampens vibrations through the club. In general, the clubs feel very solid and balls hit on-center of the clubface seem to almost "bounce" off the face very similar to the reaction I get from my Callaway VFT driver.
Cons: No major complaints, rely just opinion/playing style conflicts. First of all, the club is not very forgiving of off-center or mishit shots. Second, the clubs are rather heavy and may not suit those who are used to lighter weight irons.
Quality: Excellent quality and construction throughout. I've owned and played on these clubs for a year now and they still look great.

Review Summary: For the price paid, you are going to be hard pressed to find a set of true titanium irons that perform as well as the GT's do for me. I have been a big fan of Nickent irons in general for over 3 years now and recommend them highly.
