On 2005-06-24, Coach rated this Nicklaus AirMax 440 ML 9 Degree Stiff Flex a 4...(5729)

Purchase: I purchased this club from Nevada Bob's. The price was $285. Before I went to the shop I had decided to buy either a Taylor Made r7 or a Ping G2. The salesman was very helpful and allowed me to try as many drivers as I liked. After hitting the Taylor Made, Ping G2, Adams 430Q, Calloway and some others the salesman handed me the Nicklaus 440 ML. I hit all the clubs. Going back and forth between one club and then the 440 ML. Everytime I came back to the 440 ML the trajectory and flight path was more consistant than with the others. Length was about the same all the clubs. The Ping G2 was MAYBE 5-8 yards longer. But it was not nearly as consistant as the 440 ML.
Pros: I liked the consistancy, the trajectory, the flight path and the feel. It is a very easy club to hit.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like to well was the finish on the top of the head. Just a personal preference but the color of the head just isn't my cup of tea. But when you hit a club this well.....I can put up with the color. I'm partial to black.
Quality: The quality of the Nicklaus 440ML is just like any other high end driver. It is of very high quality. I found nothing displeasing about the quality.

Review Summary: In summary this club fit me very well. I don't have a problem with length. I still hit the driver about 300 yards but if I miss the sweet spot slightly, which happens fairly frequently, the I may be in the next fairway over. So I was looking for a driver that could help me hit the fairway more consistantly and not lose any distance. The Nicklaus 440ML was it!! I rated the club a 4 only because of the color. If I rated it on performance only it would be a 5.
