On 2007-10-05, Large David Hammerstein rated this Nike Ignite 2007 a 5...(7925)

Details: Newly redesigned for '07. Orange/white packaging, orange/black paint.

Purchase: I picked up a sleeve of these at a big golf shop in southern Cali. They were around 6 bucks, and they go for $24.99/dozen. Why? Well, I am a HUGE fan of the previous version...and truthfully, I'll try every new ball that's under $30/dozen.
Pros: Virtually everything. It is really good. I absolutely love the first version of these, or I guess, the previous version which is a real thoroughbred performer. It is long, and feels great. So I was wary of the newer and 'redesigned version'. I didn't need to worry. It's longer than the old one and just a bit (a little bit) less feel. I think the outer cover is firmer. But, the difference is very small. I think it makes it a bit less soft-feeling...however, on all-but-the-hardest greens, you won't notice the differece. On regular or soft greens, this is AWESOME. I will play this ball over all the other 3-piece competitors in that category...I have played them all...NXT Tour (awesome if on sale), HX Hot (don't look for spin on anything), Maxfli Fire (longest one, but not ideal to putt/chip), e6 (good), Hogan Hawk (awesome w/urethane cover, but discontinued), and the less-expensive 2-piece offerings like Exception (great ball, and great price for how good it is), e5 (I don't get it), AD333 (for slower swingers or if you can't get high trajectory it's great,) D2 (best ball for least $$), Big Bertha (OK), Noodle, ...but the Ignite rose to the top. It's a lot like NXT Tour, and flies farther and costs less.
Cons: Nothing. I'll play the previous version of the Ignite while their on clearance prices, and will have no qualms about playing the new one, over anything else, after that.
Quality: Top notch. Brilliant white, very durable. It kept performing after smacking some trees and cart paths.

Review Summary: I love this ball. I liked it's predecessor, and the new one is right up there. It offers long distance, high flight, and good feel. It is really solid off the putter for not being a 'tour' ball. If you hit it well it will amaze you, and if you don't it will forgive you. It's not too spinny, but offers some decent stopping power into the green. If you shoot in the 80's/90s and play those mid-priced 3-piece distance balls, this one will beat or equal them all. I think it exceeds them. I think it's funny how HX Hot, Ignite and Fire all have orange packaging and 'blazing' whatever...including names involving heat or flame. Ha! Not too original, but there you have it. This ball is a 5, which I don't give lightly. If you'd like a ProV1 or Nike One without the price, this is your 3-piece performer!
