On 2005-05-05, jcb rated this Nike Ignite 460 10.5* Fujikura Stiff a 5...(5485)

Purchase: Purchased at Richmond Golf for $208. One of the stores was closing and I have to assume that had something to do with the "giveaway" price.
Pros: I demoed the new 460 drivers by all the major manufacturers and can't say that any outperformed the others to any measurable degree. Without a doubt, the clubs are all very forgiving and all very long. The main thing you need to know is that the sweet spot is a little above the top of the driver faces rather than directly in the middle. The Nike has a great feel and my mis-hits are going 240, with the direct hits going 290. That is about a 25-30 yard increase over my old Callaway Great Big Bertha from around 1999. I highly recommend hitting a few "half wedge" type shots with them to get a feel for the sweet spot and the sheer power these things possess. I was hitting half wedge shots about 180. It is unbelievable.
Cons: Some people complained about the Fujikura stiff shafts being not stiff enough. I had mine checked with people I trust and it registered 249 which is right where it should be. I swing 108mph and might be better off with a stiff plus, but the thing is awesome as it is.
Quality: Awesome.

Review Summary: This is the year to get a new driver. You can't go wrong with any of the 460's by the major manufacturers. Find a deal, get the right shaft for you, and get the right loft for you. Considering Ernie and Vijay are hitting 9.5 to 10.5 degree lofts, don't get stuck in the old "lower is better" mentality. 10.5-13 degree is where most amateurs, even the single handicappers, ought to be.
