On 2005-10-02, AndyS rated this Nike CPR Wood-Wood 22 degree, regular shaft a 5...(6260)
Purchase: I demo'd the wood-wood yesterday and was so impressed I ordered the 22 degree today (couldn't get the 18 degree from the shop I wanted at short notice). Pros: I tried the CPR wood-wood back-to-back with my regular 18 degree utility club (Ram Wizard 18 degree - not sure if they sell them in the states). I can hit the RAM (exactly the same specs of degree and flex) 180 yards consistently and I like the club. Here's what I notices about the CPR:
- it has a very short confidence-inspiring shaft (about an inch shorter than the RAM);
- it is very easy to swing. You don't seem to have to strain to hit it hard at all and the gain in distance from swinging harder is modest;
- you know when you've hit it on the sweet spot as it gives a very pleasant, distinctive sound (no need for impact tape here);
Launches the ball high (I had to double-check it was 18 degree loft), yet strangely hits the ball very far with a steep descent;
- amazing distance. Consistently a full 30 yards longer (i.e. 210 yards) that the RAM I normally hit.
I think this is an amazing club. I'm not one for marketing hype (didn't get on with the Ignite driver I tried) but this is the most pleasant experience I've had trying a club yet! Cons: Some people will no doubt hate the colour scheme. I don't really care - the only thing that matters to me is that it doesn't distract me at address.
The latest edition of one of the new UK golf mags has a robotic test with this club and in the stats it hits SHORTER than the RAM club I use. All I can say is I'll never trust a robotic test again - what a joke! I'd much rather try a club out using my swing speed and my own swing - it was consistently awesome! Quality: I think it looked well finished. I have no opinion on it's resistance to wear as I've only just parted with my money. Review Summary: If you're thinking of buying a rescue club I urge you to demo this one. I was amazed at how easy this was to hit well and the length was astonishing to me (only 30 yards less than my 430CC shiff-shafted driver).
I've learnt a valuable lesson this weekend - don't trust anyone else's opinion but your own when buying clubs. Including mine.! Demo one first and see if it suits you. I have a feeling you'll like it!
