On 2007-06-18, lmkwin rated this Nike Slingshot Hybrid a 4...(7807)

Details: I have the 17 and the 20 degree in regular flex graphite. These clubs have the composite basket weave crown. These are not the 'tour' version that doesn't have the basketweave and have a smaller head. These have a nice wide sole, and a longer face to give you a better chance of hitting it.

Purchase: Picked up the 17 degree and the 20 degree off of ebay nearly new for about $60 a piece.
Pros: The look and the set up on these is very nice. These are hybrid clubs which puts you in a shorter shaft than a fairway wood for greater accuracy without sacrificing length. As you know it doesn't do you any good to be long if it ain't straight. Without much effort, if you swing easy and hit it on the face, these are very lively clubs. My distance improved over previous clubs of the same loft by about 8 yards. Even heel shots go well and the sound changes so that you know that you hit it off center. I believe that the sling in the back actually works and is not a gimmick. Off center doesn't go to far askew. You are well rewarded for on center hits. The 17 and 20 are the same length shaft so I don't have much adjustment between them as to set up. The grips are nice for stock grips. good feel and position markings. The shaft is not as whippy as the CPR (which I also play and love). Best results if you swing this more like an iron than a wood.
Cons: If you have nice grips on your other clubs you will want to change these out sooner or later. I'd like the face to be just a skooch taller so as to not be as concerned hitting these from a fluffy lie. CPR has a taller face.
Quality: Don't think that you will be able to find a flaw in the actual construction or quality. Nike has my vote for fine golf products. As I said, you are greatly rewarded for a nice swing and not penalized at for a bad one.

Review Summary: I highly recommend these clubs. If you play from the short grass these are a no brainer. If you live in the thick rough, I'd go CPR or Hogan CFT. As I have been known to play from both every now and then, I have all of those. I also play the Tour Edge Bazooka Iron-Woods for my 6 to SW and don't think that I will ever find a better set of clubs. If you are getting less than desired results from your current clubs, I highly recommend switching to the hybrids. I came down from a 39 to a 26 in a year. Now down to a 20ish. Think that I could conceivably get down to a 15 or so. Shorten you backswing and swing through, in balance, to your target.
