On 2002-09-10, Fresh rated this Nike Lob Wedge a 5...(524)
Purchase: I bought this club at a local golf store because I had tried a friend's wedge. I needed a lob wedge and decided to see if Nike had built a good club. I was also eyeing the new irons, but will wait for the pro combo to come out.
Pros: The club glides through rough and sand easily. It is easy to hit from bare lies and regular fairways also. I play different courses where some fairways are hard and some are soft. I don't have to do anything different, just put the same swing on the club time after time and it produces good results.
I can hit high floating shots, low (for a lob wedge) speeding shots, anything. The club is great in green-side bunkers where you have to get the ball high and stop it. It is also nice and heavy so that when you have a buried lie in the rough, you don't have to swing very hard...the club just cuts through. Also, the club will lay open easily so that I can hit a high lob. The bounce seems to be just right, not too much, not too little.
Stiles and the guys got this one right.
Cons: I can honestly say that I don't dislike anything about this wedge.
Quality: The club is beautiful to look down at when I am setting up. In my other wedges (both Cleveland Gunmetal) I have had to get the shafts changed to a stiff Rifle, but the Nike shaft is great. It is stiff and responsive, just a great feel every time I hit it. I couldn't ask for more forgiveness and feel from a lob wedge. I also usually have to change the grip to a cord of some type, but not this one. I don't want to get rid of the Nike logo cap on the end, not to mention how well the grip has held up through the summer. The club doesn't seem to impart too much spin on the ball, including a Pro V1 or balata, but it definitely has bite and will usually stop near the pitch mark on a green.
Review Summary: I will definitely purchase the sand wedge and gap wedge to complete my set. I recommend these wedges to players of any caliber who appreciate a hard-working wedge.
