On 2005-08-09, Ed Brinson rated this Pinemeadow Irons - Calloway Clones a 1...(6026)

Purchase: Pinemeadow Irons - Calloway X-16 clones, for roughly $250. I also tried Taylor-made clones from them as well.
Pros: The clubs were put together well and I couldn't complain about the price - custom made with graphite shafts and custom grips.
Cons: Well, I must be frank here. Clones just aren't for me. I noticed the difference immediately at the driving range. The heads and shafts are heavier than brand name clubs with similar customization. For comparison sake, I put these clubs up against actual X-16's and RAC's that my range let me demo. It was like night and day. You could feel the difference in the head and shaft weights right away. The clones appeared bulky and not as consistent with every club. I'm not a big fan of big name over-priced clubs - but the difference is quite striking.
Quality: Overall quality and finish were good.

Review Summary: Don't buy clones unless you really aren't particular ask to how the clubs should feel and perform. For a new golfer, clones may not impact their games significantly one way or another. However, brand names are better in terms of feel and consistency. There are cheaper brands names out there and you can buy them used. Clones just don't cut it.
