On 2005-06-10, Happy Gilmore rated this Ping G2 (black dot) a 5...(5640)
Purchase: I bought these at a local copeland sports store near the college that i attend. There was so much hype about the G2's that i thought i would give them a try.....
Pros: First off, I love Ping products, I grew up with Ping Zings and they never let me down so I trusted the G2's would be pretty solid. I am a 12 handicapper and I decided that my Ping Zings were too old and I needed new clubs. My friend that works at Copeland Sports told me about the G2's and I said "what the hell, I'll give the new Pings a try." Without excitement, I picked up the G2's and then it hit me.....I felt the force when I picked up this club and when I gave it a few practice swings, I was ready to kill the ball. I took a couple of hits with the G2's and they felt like an ice cold beer after a hard day of work. the response the club gives you is terrific, you don't even have to look at the ball after you hit it to know that you have hit a good shot. The accuracy is unbelievable, I mean you have to have a horrible outside-to-in in order to slice the ball. The spin is great too the only clubs that gave me a problem were the 3 and 4-iron but I replaced those with hybrids, other than that, the clubs are heaven-sent and I have never played better without them!!!
Cons: I have no dislikes but for those who like to work the ball with strong fades and strong draws may have a hard time. The slight fade and draw may work but the strong fades are impossible. As for me, I don't like to work to ball unless I'm on a tee on a dogleg par 4 or par 5, then I will play the fade or draw with my woods or driver.
Quality: Steel or graphite shaft, I used steel because I am used to steel, graphite is too light for me. There is a black weight chip (cavity-back) in the backing of each club that provides a crisp hit and also provides accuracy. To tell you the truth, I have never tried cavity-backed irons before, I thought they were all a joke but the G2's proved me wrong, the cavity provides true ball flight and nice spin plus added distance.
