On 2004-12-01, stoviepop rated this Ping G2 10 degree Aldila NV 65 stiff shaft a 5...(4813)

Purchase: Purchased at local golf shop where I could trade in some older clubs and my old driver to keep the cost under control. List was 299.00.
Pros: Demoed just about everything out there for about 6 months, Cobra, Cleveland, Titleist, Taylor Made, Mizuno and even the Nicklaus but never the Ping. I was just about ready to buy the Cobra 400SZ, so I visited a shop that had a launch angle/ club head speed/ video computer set up to best determine the optimum club for me. He handed me the Ping G2 to give it a whack. OOOOh man. Club sets up perfectly. Nice and square. I don't like how some of the manufacturers close the clubface a few degrees in attempts to convince golfers that they'll be hitting a draw every time. It makes me think I have to compensate just to hit it straight.Lots of confidence at address with the Ping. 460 cc may sound huge but after hitting just a few balls you'll be convinced. So adios Cobra. First round I played with the G2 I was laughing to myself about how long and straight it was. almost felt like I was cheating...but I got over it!
Cons: Be careful. If you don't get fitted correctly regarding loft and shaft combo you'll be taking some unnecessary walks into the woods. And considering how far you'll hit it. it will be in the deep part of the woods. Stock Ping shaft is way too soft and will make your shot balloon and is a bit inconsistent as far as squaring up at impact. The optional Aldila NV shaft works well for me and it is available (factory installed) at no additional cost.Graffaloy is also available at no upcharge as well. Didn't test it out though. Probably should work well as long as it is low torque and mid to high kick point.
Quality: Excellent as far as I can tell. Ping grip is just fine

Review Summary: If you have not updated your driver in a while you are missing out. Try all of them out if you get a chance. Determine the one you feel most confident and comfortable with at address visually. Then, PLEASE consult with a professional to get the proper shaft fitted for you based on your swing speed and desired trajectory. Make sure to consider the Ping G2 in your evaluation. It's a top quality club and a great value in an overpriced driver market.
