Details: 9 Deg Loft Grafalloy Blue Stiff

Purchase: Tested 7 new drivers last in Sept. '07, including the G10. This was the best for me. I paid $210 New on eBay.
Pros: Very playable and forgiving. Sraightest driver I have played to date! Can turn it left and right, play it down or up. Good carry of 270 yds
Cons: Not as long as some of the other drivers.
Quality: It's a Ping... say no more!

Review Summary: It works for me and I have seen it work for other A players... maybe it will for you.

Details: 9.0 degree with NV Shaft

Purchase: I bought this club From The Golf Warehouse for $300$ (I'd say thats really cheap, i blew $400 on my old TaylorMade R7 425). I previously owned a Taylormade R7 425, but it wasn't preforming like it used to. One Day i decided to test out some new drivers from my local course and they recommended, that I try out the Ping G5 along with the new R7 Superquad. I couldn't hit the R7, it didn't feel right and i didn't like the sound the dirver produced. After I hit a couple of shots with the R7 i switched over to the ping. I killed every shot i hit,it was straigt with a slight fade and carried around 300yards. I have never hit the ball so well, the only problem i had with the driver was that the shaft i demoed (the TFC stock shaft) produced too high of a ball flight and my natural tendency is to hit the ball high already, so to compensate of that i went online and ordered the 9 degree with the NV shaft which produced a lower ball flight with now cut in distance.
Pros: I love this driver. I wasn't sure if i would like it or not because i never really like the big 460cc heads but now i see what all the hype is about. THe sound is amazing i really builds confidence. Also even mishits still went around 290yrds. This is the BEST DRIVER EVER, though the new G10 was just released but i'll wait to demo it.
Cons: NOTHING AT ALL
Quality: The build quality is the best as with any Ping (i own a couple of ping wedges and a putter)

Review Summary: I would reccomend this club to anyone who wants to hit it long iwth out spending a fortune.

Details: 10.5 degree, regular flex Graffoloy Prolaunch Blue.

Purchase: I work at my local golf course, so I got it for $250 dollars brand new.
Pros: I absolutely love the distance and forgivieness of this club. It also looks great, and makes an excellant noise when hit well. I am only about 5 foot 5 soI went with more loft and a more flexable shaft. My average drive has gone from 200-215 all the way to 255-270. My old driver was a 983k with an xtremely stiff shaft. I get so much more carry with more loft and the right shaft that it is like I am playing a new course now.
Cons: The only thing I don't like is that one of my buddies put an ugly idiot mark by the toe of the club. One more thing, the shaft on this club is almost an inch over standard, so it might be a little harder to control at times.
Quality: This is a very well constructed club. Every thing from the paint job to the shaft is top notch.

Review Summary: If you are in the market for a new driver, it would be a mistake not to at least demo the G5.

On 2006-06-11, AK golfer rated this Ping G5 a 5...(7088)

Details: 10.5 degree ProLaunch Blue 65S

Purchase: I traded in the r7 and payed $160 in a Tucson, AZ store... I don't remember the name.
Pros: Great appearance at address, feels great at impact, very good shaft.
Cons: Nothing yet
Quality: Top notch.

Review Summary: This club is not a miracle worker, but if you have a fairly consistent swing this club will give you distance and control. I swing at 100 mph and a solid normal drive is in the 265-275 range. Some advice: If possible try different shafts and lofts. I always used a 9 degree, but found that 10.5 worked a lot better for me with the G5.

Details: Ping G5 9.0 Adila stiff shaft

Purchase: After testing, I got this at golfsmith on the spot for 299. Yeah i could have gotten it cheaper but the way it performed, i couldn't wait even an hour.
Pros: I tested Callaway X and Nike Sasquatch. They are both very good driver but not outstanding as G5. Those two driver felt like i was hitting the ball with the frying pan. In other hand G5 feels more workable, but it has great forgivingness. From my average 220-230 with no bounce (from skyrocketing), i went 250-260, 270-280 with bounce. One time i drove 300. Yes~ 300! i never thought i could drive that far. This club is very forgiving. This is by far the best club i have had in my life. Go try this one and you won't be disappointed
Cons: Nothing!
Quality: Ping quality equals will never let you down

Review Summary: If you don't like this club, i am assuming you are working for Ping's competitor

Details: 9.0 Degree Loft

Purchase: I recently broke the shaft of my driver, a Titleist 975J. Spoke to my club pro about re-shafting that club, but decided to demo several new drivers. He gave me several models to try, based on his knowledge of my game and swing. He also covered the sole so that I would not know which product I was hitting. I quickly felt most comfortable with the Ping G5. Proceeded back out to the course for another 9 holes and proceeded to shoot a 32 followed by a 74 and 77 for 18. My golf partners, both 2 handicaps were blown away by my added control and increased distance. Purchase price was $299 from my club pro.
Pros: Like the feel, love the added distance and control. It's the first time that I have held a driver and feel very confident that the ball will travel its indended direction. Typically I would hit the ball long but not necessarily in the desired direction. I was always in play but that the dispersion could result in anything from the left rough to the right rough. I feel that with the Ping G5, where I aim is where the ball is going. I also like the ball flight and carry of the club head.
Cons: Too new to have any negative feelings about the club. I am not sure if I will have the ability to work the ball as much as I could with my previous Titleist driver.
Quality:

Review Summary: Bottom line--this is the most comfortable driver I have ever held in my hands. While standing over the ball I have the upmost confidence of making solid contact and projecting my ball well down the fairway towards its intended target. I played last weekend on a rather windy day. Our 18th is a par 4 of approx. 420 yards, well bunkered on both the right and left sides. Normally the longest hitters can just fly the bunkers. On this day, into the wind, I flew past my partners by more than 40 yards and easily cleared the bunkers. This set up a wedge to the green, where I 2 putted for par. My partner and I collected our winnings. I walked off the course anxious to return.

Details: 9 deg, Graphite Design YS-6+ stiff shaft

Purchase: Purchased at Golfsmith - around $300 (I honestly don't remember). I had a gift card that brought the out of pocket cost down considerably. I got fitted at another shop. Came down to the Titleist 905T, 10 deg, YS-6+ stiff, and the Ping G2, stock shaft, stiff.
Pros: I've like Ping drivers in the past. Have had the Si3, G2 (for only 1 round) and now the G5.
Cons: I haven't been able to play a round with this driver yet (I bought it in Oct. 2005). I have gone to the range several times and so far, so good.
Quality: No issues here. Everything seems solid. I have never encountered construction/quality issues with any club I've owned (Ping, Callaway, Cleveland, TaylorMade)

Review Summary: I'm a bit confused about the loft difference between the 9 and the 10.5. I would have preferred something in the 9.5 to 10 degree range, so I went with the lower loft and a higher launching shaft (as opposed to the Aldila NV-65 that came with the driver). Until I get it out on the course, I don't know if my hypothesis is correct.

Details: 9 Degrees. 460cc. Adila N65 Stiff Shaft

Purchase: I bought club at Golfsmith and paid $299. I have always been very happy with my purchases from Golfsmith and would recommend them to anyone.
Pros: I like the overall look at adress - it inspires confidence and is comfortable. The club head doesn't appear too big like some other 'over-sized' driver. I looks managable and easy to hit.
Cons: The club feels very light in my hands and although I have a stiff shaft it's very 'whippy' when I swing. So far my drives have been all over the place and short - with my previous driver I was much longer and mostly straight. The driver appears a slight bit closed at adress too, which takes some getting used to. In addition the club does not produce a solid, flush sound when hit.
Quality: Ping is of course a great company. The overall construction and appearance of the G5 is beautiful - although it doesn't sound 'cheap' when hit.

Review Summary: It's a good buy, but it has to be tuned specifically for you (very important!!!)Stay away from it if you like your current driver!!!!

On 2006-02-06, Shooter rated this Ping G5 a 5...(6643)

Details: 7.5 degree, extra stiff shaft

Purchase: I bought this club at an Edwin Watts shop for 299.00. I have previously demo'd the club so I knew what I was getting.
Pros: I have always had a problem with skying my tee-shots way too high. I decided to try a lower loft club to see if that would help. I picked up this G5 and, after one trip to the range, went to the course and shot my best round up to that point ever. I hit this thing long and straight. On my mishits I seem to hit about as far as the guys I play with with just a little fade on the ball. When I connect well I'm outdriving them every time. I used to average about a 230 yard drive. I'm now carrying the ball 260 to 280 almost every time. I hit this thing so well and so long that I went ahead and pulled my old 3-wood out of my bag. I never need it!
Cons: Nothing at all. The only change I made was putting a new Winn grip on it and I smash it with precision almost every hit. If there was anything to complain about this club is that you start hitting the ball so far you end up trying to kill one just to see how far you really can hit it.
Quality: I love Ping products and this is one of their best. It looks great and feels extremely light for it's size.

Review Summary: Anyone, And I mean anyone, could use this driver. A beginner is going to get on more fairways and a seasoned vet is gonna start clearing that ditch that he used to lay up to. Price wise it's right up there with all the other new equipment so if you have the money, go for it. Just rmember not to mention it to your wife until AFTER you buy it.

Details: 9.5 degree with Aldila Stiff Shaft

Purchase: I acquired this driver from the pro shop from my club for Aus$420.00. I had an opitunity to demo this club and the Cobra SZ440 with a stiff shaft together. Now I do like the Cobra's, but when your consistantly 15-20 metres longer with the Ping, it doesn't take long to work out whats staying in my bag. The ball flys off the face on a great launce angle and I get the best hang time I've ever gotten from any driver I have used.
Pros: The ease and workability of this club, and the distance.
Cons: Nothing
Quality: First class quality as you would expect from Ping.

Review Summary: The Aldila shaft with this club head is an awesome combination reguardless of what handicap you are. So far the longest drive I've hit with this club is 261 metres or 287 yards which is about 15 metres longer than my best. Not bad for a 5'4 (163cm) shorty.

Details: NVS Stiff Shaft, 9.5 Degree

Purchase: Bought new off e-bay, with upgraded shaft $280.
Pros: Nice look and set up. I like what I read about the G5, just didn't like the way it performed.
Cons: The club does not feel solid. I swing hard and average about a realistic 280 yard drive. After a bucket of balls it never felt like I to hit it on the screws. Yes, it went a long way, but that was only 1 out of 5 shots. All the other shots seemed to fade off to the right. I also let 2 of my other friends hit the club and the agreed about the poor feeling on each hit.
Quality: The construction seems good, but like I said, it doesn't feel very solid.

Review Summary: I heard and read nothing but good comments before I bought this club. I never hit it though and highly recommend trying it out before anyone purchasing the club. I ended up selling mine to a friend for a loss.If you swing hard, try a different driver. I think the G5 was set up for slower swing speeds.Good luck...tees and greens to ya.

Purchase: I paid $299.00 at Golf USA. My old Tommy Armour driver was getting a little beat up and I was hoping to get a little more forgiveness out of a newer driver.
Pros: This club is not magical. You still have to make a decent swing to get good results. That being said, I still think this is a big improvement over my old driver. Now, my drives tend to be either straight or a slight draw. The most interesting thing is that when I really screw up and put a big outside-in opend-faced swing on the ball, it goes really high and lands on the right side of the fairway or in the first cut of rough. I haven't had to go into next fairway to find a ball since using this driver. Of course, distance suffers [180 to 200yds], but that certainly beats being 50yds deep in the woods. My best drives with this driver are not really any longer than my best drives with my old driver, but I'm hitting my drives about twice as often with the Ping.
Cons: Nothing.
Quality: Everything about this driver is top of the line. Fit, finish, grip and paint job are all great.

Review Summary: Great Driver. Well worth the money.

On 2005-09-28, bcklash rated this Ping G5 a 5...(6244)

Purchase: Bought a 12 degree G5 at the local pro shop and payed $292.00. They let me try a 13.5 and 12 for 9 holes each.
Pros: WOW, what a club. my drives have gone from around 210 yards to 250. Straight down the middle. never hit a driver this far. I have owned several drivers, including the 'Hammer", Adams Redline and TM 360HD. Nothing compares to this driver.
Cons: Nothing
Quality: Construction is first rate. Really like to sound as the ball is hit. Mine has the Grafaloy blue regular shaft

Review Summary: Wonderful club and price.

Purchase: I paid 289 plus tax down here in south florida.
Pros: This is the most incredible club I have ever used , first of all i bought the R7 with all the weights to correct my slice, it was not a good experiment, my distance was terrible i was out driving it with my ping g2 3 wood, so i finally thought why not look at the ping driver, i checked the reviews here and they were very positive, but so were the R7's. So i went to the driving range and they had the new G5 in with Graffoley shaft i hit this thing forty times and 34 were in the fairway range, and the distance was incredible , The only way anybody gets this club from me is prying it out of my cold dead hands, put simply i am in love...
Cons: only thing i dont like it i cant use it for every shot on the course because it just so forgiving...
Quality: its a ping enough said

Review Summary: Dont walk to the store to get it RUN!!!!
