On 2006-09-28, Jim in Scottsdale rated this Ping Rapture Driver and 3-wood a 5...(7444)

Details: PING Rapture Driver (10.5) with Adila Proto VS-70 shaft

Purchase: Living in Arizona offers the convenience of frequent trips to the Ping factory to try new products, or rounds with my buddy Alan at Moon Valley CC. Sure you can grab a club or two from Golfsmith or Vans, but it's just not the same as when you step onto the hallowed grounds where Karsten made it all happen. Being in 'test mode' I have not made this purchase yet ... but plan to this weekend ($429) ... shhhh, don't tell Alan.
Pros: This club has a very natural feel in your hands. The characteristics are identical to the G5 (steel vs. composite) but the subliminal design just beneath the surface on the toe reminds you that this club has something more. I was somewhat afraid of making the change from the Adila NV-65S but the combination of this new composite design and the proto shaft are tough to beat (and believe me I've tried).
Cons: I know it sounds boring but I don't need my buddies knowing what shaft I'm playing (I know Adila feels just the opposite, but hey, that's what 'marketing' is suppossed to do ... tell everyone what you're playing so they want one when you blow past their weak 285-yard drive). Give me a plain black shaft with the specs and I'm cookin' with gas.
Quality: Great feel in the set-up and explosion at impact. Very clean sound with lower spin then my 905R (which has always been the big knock on that head). What I like the most is the way this driver responds in your hands. The transference of power is solid and the flight carries the trendy plateau without the dreaded ballooning (see Graffaloy Blue).

Review Summary: I don't sell clubs, shafts or even golf balls. I'm just a guy who loves the game and continues to search for golf's holy grail of the perfect round. This driver is my latest tool to taking me one step closer to that goal. Even in my late 40's I know I still have a 69 in me somewhere. Game on gentlemen. See you on Saturday morning!
