On 2005-06-22, mr_divots rated this Ping G2 14* Green Dot Grafalloy Prolaunch 75s a 5...(5710)

Purchase: Golf Galaxy. Traded in some clubs towards this one. More than one should spend on a 3 wood, but it has been worth it. They had to order it from Ping WRX, which was surprisingly fast. I owned a Taylor Made V-steel previously, but didn't like the shaft and the finish was coming off. Rather than re-shaft it again, traded it in on the G2. I liked my G2 driver with the Prolaunch so much, wanted to get the 3 wood also. Glad I did.
Pros: Easiest to hit 3 wood I've ever owned. The more upright green dot lie angle has me hitting a gentle draw with my 3 wood off the deck for the first time ever. The Prolaunch 75s is a great shaft also. Delivers the high launch just like in the driver, which actaully gives your shot a chance of stopping on par 5's when going for it. Let this club do the work and don't overswing, and it rewards with long, straight hits. This club takes the most perfect shallow little divots I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a 3W. One thing I reccommend with these clubs: specify the swingweight through Ping rather than going with stock. In stock, the swingweight is a light-ish C9 to D0. I specified D2 and it feels much better than stock ones I had tried in the store.
Cons: One little thing: Although the headcover is a nice faux-leather material, it has no sock to protect the shaft.
Quality: Very good. I was able to specify every aspect of this club through Ping WRX. Shaft, Lie Angle, Length, Swingweight. The weight cartridge in the back of the head had a screw come loose right away that wasn't tightened down enough by Ping. A trip to the hardware store for a $1.49 T6 Torx bit solved that easily enough. That was kinda a disappointment in QC, as all my Ping clubs have always been excellent. It's been fine ever since.

Review Summary: Long and straight, with a nice high ballflight that has a chance to stop on the green on those long par 5's. Couldn't be happier with this club. Best I've ever hit a 3W.
