On 2005-11-27, Mark Lee rated this Ping S-59 Tour Blade Black Dot Steel Stiff a 5...(6443)

Purchase: It all began when I was visiting my local Golf town to have my driver regripped. I was quickly introduced to the S-59's and after about 6 minutes in a simulator it was a weekend away for two. After realizing that this introduction had turned into a torrid affair, I purchased my own set from EBay for $420 cdn and sold off my ex-I3's to other adulterer.
Pros: The Ping S-59 have a lot of features that I consider advantageous for golfers. First with its compact head and limited offsets they are extremely easy to set up and dead on accurate. They simple hit the ball where they are aimed, period. When the wind is from the right, and you aim right to carry to the target. That is exactly what happens. No surprises from over offset irons just total predictability. The weighting of these irons is also outstanding. No matter where you grip the club it feels as if you are at the end of the grip which make swinging effortless. The club also tracks and holds it line well at all points in the golf swing. Lastly, these irons also encourage one to focus on every shot they hit. Mediocre swings yield mediocre results. Something I consider a huge training aid
Cons: There is not much negative that can be said about the S-59 iron. They don't have the satiny feel of the Mizuno mp-33's but they are plush while being rock solid. Somewhere between the S-59's now and the mp-33's would be the perfect feeling blade but that is a matter of personal preference. They also have a very low trajectory in the 3 & 4 irons. Something that may bother some.
Quality: A Rock solid Iron from Ping that has the look, feel and playability that is rarely seen in one product.

Review Summary: If you are searching for a more traditional looking iron with the playability that is legendary among accomplished golfers then the S-59 blade is your best choice. Invest the time to have yourself properly fitted, devote time to practice and focus on every shot and you will see these are the best irons Pings has made to date, period! Q4-2005
