On 2003-02-23, Jefferson Halili rated this Pinseeker TPW Plus a 4...(976)
Purchase: I was looking for a midsized cavity back iron (not oversized), with less offset. Along with these, I tried the Cleveland TA5, TA7, and MacGregor V-Foil Forged Cavity Backs.
I picked up the TPW Plus for $399 (with steel shaft) and got a free gap wedge at Roger Dunn.
Pros: Appearance - thinner topline, midsized head, not too large. Progressive offset, mid to long irons have moderate offset. This appealed to me because I tend to hook the ball with too much offset.
Feel - good feedback from a cast cavity back. Center hits are quiet and crisp, yet soft. Thinned and toed hits give a slap, but not too harsh. You know when you flush 'em, and when you don't.
Playability - easy to hit short and mid irons, as well as long irons. Center hits give good distance, slight mishits are not too far offline (with less distance than center hits). You'll get punished for severe hits off the toe or hosel, but that goes without saying. Moderate forgiveness, with some workability. My usual shot is a draw, and these did that. But, I could hit it straight or with a fade when I tried.
Trajectory - mid boring trajectory, not too high with Stiff shaft.
Cons: The overall weight is pretty light despite the steel shaft. Plus, I ordered these 1/2" shorter (and 3 degrees flat). The swingweight (originally D1 at 1/2" short) had to be adjusted at the factory (to D3 as I requested).
I would get more weight added if these are too light for your taste.
Quality: Excellent quality and craftsmanship. Very good from a smaller company that doesn't advertise.
Review Summary: For the money, there are not that many better deals out there. Easy to hit, forgiving, and playable.
