On 2006-01-24, Griffon rated this SMT CB1, CB2 a 5...(6624)
Details: Had a set (3-PW) made up with 3,4,5 in the CB1 (cavity back) and 6 - PW in the CB2 (half cavity). Used the Harrison Professional steel shaft and have to say this, the combination is a killer.
Purchase: Purchased from Diamond Tour, who built and shipped to Cyprus in 5 days !!!
Pros: These are great irons. Trajectories are powerful, mid height and landings are nice and soft. The clubs have a CNC milled face which generates TONS of spin - so factor this into your play.
The CB1's are a full cavity back model, hugely forgiving, but still responsive to deliberate efforts to draw and hit high or low. I say draw as that's my usual shaped shot - fades I don't hit too well.
The CB2's are a partial carvity model and provide forgiveness for off-centre shots, but also allow for much more creativity with iron play.
SMT also make a muscle back model for the more demanding.
I mated the heads to the Harrison professional steel in stiff and am very happy with the combo. Distance has never been a major concern for me, so when I looked at my shaft options I chose the harrisons in an attempt to gain more consistency and accuracy - even if it meant giving up some yardage.
Well, I am happy to report that yes I did see a gain in accuracy and consistency. As far as distance goes, no difference from my last irons withy regular shafts.
Cons:
Quality: Top quality product. If you read through all the review categories, you will probably come across a few from me regarding SMT and harrison shafts. What can I say - I like SMT products and I have a soft spot for Harrison.
Review Summary: The SMT's with the Harrisons have lowered my scores and made me a more consistent and accurate golfer, and increased my enjoyment of the game.
