On 2003-06-21, Tony rated this Snake Eyes Aermet Hot Steel 3W a 5...(1587)

Purchase: I bought this club (head, shaft, grip, etc...) from Golfsmith, over the Internet, and assembled it myself. Price for the parts was less than $80. I like the freedom of building the club myself, and it is cheaper than buying pre-build clubs. I also have the Aermet Hot Steel driver and 5-wood. Ed: Club details; 14 deg 3-wood, 43", TT Lite XL steel shaft, regular flex
Pros: This is an attractive club. It has a very deep blue finish that almost looks black. It is a fairly forgiving club, with a nice sound at impact - not too clanky, not too muted. The feel through impact is smooth - even with a steel shaft. This club is supposed to have a low trajectory, but it seems normal to me - for a 14 degree loft. Not too high or low. I have a slowish swing speed (80-85 mph with a driver) and rarely if ever use a driver. Typically my 3-wood will out distace my driver. I have hit many other brand name clubs, and have had my longest drive ever with this 3-wood!
Cons: The only improvement I would like to see is a small, subtle logo on the top of the clubhead, near the face.
Quality: This seems to be a solid, well made club, with an attractive classic shape. The very deep blue gloss finish is flawlwess.

Review Summary: This is a good slightly oversize (175 cc) 3-wood. It looks good, feels good, hits good, and is fairly inexpensive. I like the fact that the drivers are swing-speed rated. I have the 10 degree driver (320 cc) which is rated for swing speeds of 85-100 mph. I will be trying it (instead of my 3-wood) from time to time - when I can get my swing speed up over 85 mph consistantly. If not, I may try the 11 degree driver that is rated for a 70-85 mph swing spped. I like the options you get with this line of woods.
