Purchase: I recently obtained the Snake Eyes TC-02 irons from Golfsmith. I acquired the set in component form and affixed them to TT lite steel shafts and adjusted the swingweight to a D3. The iron heads 3-PW alone were purchased for $100.00 but the set could be made with steel shafts for just over $200 by the amateur clubmaker (such as myself) or purchased with good shafts and grips from custom clumakers for $300 - $400.
Pros: The TC-02 is a cast cavity back design. I was looking for a somewhat more forgiving club than the Golfsmith Tour Cavity Pro I had been playing and in the TC-02 I think I have found the right combination for my game. The Snake Eyes irons are very classy looking clubs - the Snake Eyes logo looks very cool in the bag. These irons have a thinner top line than ultra game improving irons such as the Callaway X-16 or Dynacraft DFS irons. They set up more like a blade than a shovel and despite the rather shallow cavity back I have been very satisfied with the forgiveness on shots hit less than perfectly. I find that my best shots have occurred with aggressive swings which produce nicely shaped trajectories without a tendency to hit too high and balloon into the wind. Feedback on mishits is discernible but distinctly less than with the Golfsmith Tour Cavity Pro irons I played last season. Distance on my mishits is better with the TC-02's also. They are just a more forgiving club.
Cons: Thus far I find nothing bad to say about this set and look forward to playing them for the entire upcoming golf season.
Quality: Fit and finish are first class. I would rank them with any OEM manufacturer. My set was enjoyable to make.
Review Summary: I am enjoying the TC-02's. They blend a nice compromise between an unforgiving blade and the clunky appearance of many game improvement irons. I am taking these clubs with me to play Pebble Beach in March (a 50th Birthday pilgrimage) and I think they will look good and more importantly play well on my trip to this hallowed land.
