On 2004-11-24, rpayne rated this Snake Eyes 5040 Sand Wedge a 5...(4799)

Purchase: I found this club on Ebay for only $9.99 plus $10 shipping. It was new 55 deg. with the chrome face (not the rust face).
Pros: This club was assembled with a UST gold 95 stiff graphite shaft with a lampkin grip. The first thing that I noticed with this wedge was that it was much easier to align to the target than my previous two wedges. The bounce is considerably less at the heel than my previous wedge and it is easier to lay the face open without "skulling" it. It generates considerably more spin from the longer grass than my previous wedge as well, but not so much that I am shredding balls. As it is a blade the sweet spot is huge, but anything from about 3/4 the way out to the toe all the way to the hosel feels awesome. I forgot how good a well struck blade feels. Lastly, the club is gorgeous with the UST shaft. Maybe the prettiest club I have ever seen.
Cons: There is nothing that I dislike about the 55 deg. wedge. In fact, I have since ordered both the 51 and 60 degree heads to complete the set. Luckily, I found them both after they anounced they were discontinuing them. I'll probably put the same UST shaft in both. Even if I had paid 5 to 8 times what I paid I would have been very pleased with the club.
Quality: The grip was assembled incorrectly, and I re-gripped with a Winns Collegiate Excel XF (Michigan all the way baby)

Review Summary: It's too bad that they quit making this one, although the 600 series is quite similar in appearance they probably figured that there was too much overlap.
