Purchase: Purchased from TGW.com for $175.00 with a promotion they had going. I have been playing a Taylor Made Rescue Mid 19º w/ stiff steel for 2 seasons. I saw raving reviews in Golf Digest and Golf Magazine for this club. Everyone from scratch to 20 'cappers loved it, so I took the plunge.
Pros: I certainly was an attractive club with a nice square shape to it that was easy to line up to the target. It was easy to hit, very straight, distance was good at about 220 off the deck, but...
Cons: The ballflight of this club is close to "worm-burner" territory. I have a 108+ MPH driver swing, so I definitely have enough clubhead speed to get the ball airborn. Long irons aren't a problem, I just like the forgiveness in hybrids. The flight was so low there would be no chance of stopping this club on a long par 3 or going for it on a par 5. I even went up to 21º loft anticipating a more "boring" trajectory, but it still was too low. Like I said, easy as pie to hit it straight, but I don't see any real useful purposes to take up a spot in my bag with it. The weight of this club was also very light compared to my Rescue Mid and it didn't dig the ball out of the rough as well. It was promptly returned.
Quality: Attractive club that was finished nicely. Face did tend to scar pretty easily/quickly, more so than my Rescue Mid after 2 seasons of use. 2 trips to the range and two rounds of 18 made the face pretty beat up. I was surpirsed by that. Probably just a softer metal, as it did almost have a forged feel about it.

Review Summary: I was disappointed by this club. I was very excited to get it given all the positive magazine reviews. Lesson learned: wait until demo clubs are available in my area before purchase. I can honestly say this club performs well in that it is easy to hit, but the low trajectory is less than useful. Hybrids have a reputation for hitting the ball higher than the corresponding iron. This hybrid did not live up to such notions. The IROD shaft for being billed as a low-kickpoint, high launching shaft couldn't even help this club. My vote is for the Rescue Mid in head-to-head comparison.
