On 2006-06-08, Joe Golfer rated this Sonartec MD Transition Hybrid a 5...(7073)

Details: 23* loft, regular flex UST IROD shaft

Purchase: This club sells for $199.99, but Golfsmith had a Memorial Day special in which you received 50 dollars off any 200 dollar purchase made on the holiday weekend. I purchased an additional grip (I regrip my own clubs), putting me over the 200 dollar mark and then I got the club for around $150.
Pros: The Sonartec MD Transition is just a superb club. I had the three iron replacement already, so I decided to get the four iron replacement as well. I never could hit a three iron well, but I usually hit the four iron well about three quarters of the time. It's just that these Sonartec hybrids are so much easier to hit. I tried other hybrids, such as the Nike and Callaway version. They're good, but there is just something about the Sonartec club that works much better for me. It hits the ball very straight, and it's very easy to get a good ball flight on each shot. It doesn't balloon the ball like hybrids do. I wouldn't say that it is designed to hit the ball higher, as it still gives a penetrating flight. It just gives a very consistent, solid feeling shot.
Cons: I'll be regripping it with a Tour Wrap grip as opposed to the Tour Velvet grip that it comes with, but that is just a personal preference.
Quality: Excellent, all the way around.

Review Summary: I knew I was getting a good club, as I already had the three iron replacement hybrid. It's just an excellent club with a nice, penetrating ball flight that is very easy to get into the air and it carries very far. It almost sounds like a contradiction that it is easy to get into the air, yet it hits the ball on a driving trajectory, but that is the case.
