On 2004-09-28, Don rated this Spartan 9x7 Hitting net a 4...(4501)

Purchase: Purchased from www.gartsports.com for $29.99 with free shipping. I wanted a way of practicing my swing and hit balls without going to the driving ranges
Pros: The best thing about the net is that it lets me hit balls with all my clubs except the wedges in my back yard. I work from home so I can go out at lunch time and hit balls for as little or as much as I want without driving to the range. It saves me time and money on range balls. While my lunch it heating up on the stove, I hit balls for a few minutes when I want.
Cons: The net can be put together in about 10 minutes and set up in a few seconds when you want to hit balls. But you can't put it away out of the sun, so the net will dry out from the hot sun and start to get holes in it after about one year, depending on the weather in your area. I live in Colorado at 5500 feet altitude and the sun is very bright and dries out the net faster than it would in the east. Being only 7 feet high( they make a 8X10 size net also)if I hit my wedges, the ball goes over the net into the field behind my house. It would be nice if replacement nylon netting was available.
Quality: The net is made of black painted steel tubing frame with a white nylon net. The frame is in the shape of an L, so you can stand the net up and place a few brackets into the ground to hold the net vertical while hit balls. Other than the net wearing out from the sun light, it's well made.

Review Summary: If you want to improve your game and have a place to set up a 7x9 net, it's well worth the $30.00 this net costs. The larger 8x10 net is about $40.00 plus shipping. I added a colored piece of nylon cord running up and down to the middle of the net for an aiming reference line, and that makes it easy to see if the ball goes where I wanted it to go. It should last a few years in most climates, and you will save enough money on range balls to buy a new one when it does wear out. It's convenient to use and cheaper than range balls and sure to help almost any golfer game in one season.Don at fishercustom@netzero.net
