Purchase: Purchased 2 dozen for $30 at a local Dick's Sporting Goods store. The Strata Pro Balatas were on sale 2 for the price of 1 and having never played this particular model, decided to snap them up and review them.
Pros: The soft balata shell really brings touch to your game. Chipping and green characteristics were typical of balata balls and Strata does them as well as anybody else. The ball is attractive and the Strata logo and markings are not hard on the eyes other. Drive performance was average in the distance category, but the ball was real workable. If you've already got decent length on your drives, you'll appreciate the ability to fine tune the flight path of your ball.
Cons: The average distance characteristics can be as much of a blessing as they are limiting. The soft shell also is prone to scuffing and marking so if you're someone who tends to play more than a round or two with the same ball, this might be a concern for you.
Quality: Obviously first rate construction. Those who are familiar with balatas and other soft balls know that they are not paying for a ball that lasts all summer. Most folks switch balls (or lose balls in my case) frequently so this is a feature that is not as important for some.

Review Summary: Think of them like fine, expensive racing tires on a sports car. The ball has incredible bite and great manners around the greens. Distance on your drives is not the reason for playing a balata, but the advantages in control are worth the price. Especially when you get a 2 for 1 deal.
