Purchase: Big 5 Sports, San Rafael, CA. On sale for $20 per dozen. I bought 2 dozen, as I had already played this ball and liked the results. Pros: As stated in its name, this ball is very straight. The slick cover reduces side spin that causes slices and draws. The distance is very good, I hit my drives, maybe, 10 yards shorter than Pro V1s and about the same distance as NXT Tour. It has a medium-soft feel and seems like a pretty true ball, which makes my putter more effective. These are also very durable balls, the don't cut easily. Cons: The slick cover which helps redude side spin also helps reduce backspin with wedges(not so good), so unless your trajectory is very high or you can generate Tigeresque spin you won't easily stop this ball. Quality: Very durable cover, a good quality ball; as expected from Strata. Review Summary: Overall, this is a nice ball, at a low price (I've seen these new for as low as $15/dozen). Probably not for the low handicapper, but excellent for those of us who have a tendency to miss fairways.

Purchase: Paid $26/doz. at a local sporting goods store. I've also seen them sold at Target and Wal-Mart. After doing a bit of research I decided to give these new "Teflon coated" balls a try. Pros: The ball is real durable and does not scuff or scratch easily. I also like the green arrow which I find nice when lining up a putt. The ball has sort of a slick feel to it - perhaps it's the teflon. I found it to play real similar to the Callway Red's that my golfing buddy uses. Cons: It's a nice ball but I don't know if the Teflon claim is just a smooth marketing campaign. I've played various Wilson's (the Smart Core line), Top-Flite, and Nike golf balls and the Strata's can slice or hook just like the other balls. If your swing promotes a slice, your going to hit a slice no mater what is coated on the ball. Quality: Very nice construction and quality. The ball can last several rounds and even though it feels like the Callaway Red's, this Strata balls lasts much longer. Review Summary: Good golf ball. Would highly recommend it to those who have trouble putting. Try lining up that long green arrow and see if it helps. On 2002-08-11, S. Sutliff rated this Strata Tour Straight a 5...(382)
Purchase: Pro Golf Shop, Indianapolis - $24.99 Pros: I've tried more balls than I care to mention - Callaway, Taylor-Made, Maxfli, Titleist, Precept, etc. This ball has it all! It truly is a soft, LONG, and fairly straight ball (the only ball I've found to be straighter would be the Taylor-Made Distance Plus). And for a distance ball, it seems to hold the greens better than most. Before using this ball, my lowest score had been a 97 - my first round with the Strata, I shot a 91! I'm impressed! Cons: Quality: The Strata Tour Straight is a multi-layered ball - the info given by Strata indicates a 37 compression? That's about the lowest compression I've heard yet - it is soft and has a great feel off the driver! Review Summary: A great ball for the price! I'd say I'm done shopping around for a ball that fits my game! On 2002-07-09, Johnny - Pittsburgh rated this Strata Tour Straight a 4...(245)
Purchase: A friend of mine gave me a sleeve to try out. Pros: There were a few things that caught my attention. First, the green arrow that is printed on the ball made it very easy to line up putts. Secondly, for a three piece ball, it had a nice feel to it. And lastly, it was long. I had to go back off a club on all my irons. That's a nice feeling! Cons: I disliked the putting feel. The ball off the woods and irons, has a nice soft feel. However, off the putter it felt more like a 2 piece ball. Quality: I felt the quality was great. The cover is a soft cover, and I was unable to cut into with my irons. It held up. Review Summary: This is a great ball for the price. Purchase: I bought these balls at Frys sports in South San Francisco. They were $27... I usually buy Titleist NXT balls but I felt like I maybe needed a change and for the price range STRATA seemed like the next best buy. Pros: The tour stright ball is LONG!!!!! I was amazed at how much distance I gained over the NXT. I actually hit three of each of three straights and the NXTs on a par five tee box. I am not kidding I hit all of them with the same swing the same way and the closest NXT was a good 8 or 9 yards back to the worst STRATA. Also the straight has an arrow on it where the lettering usually is. It was really cool and easy to line up my putts with the addition of the arrrow printed on the ball. I had a total of 26 putts that round (my lowest ever recorded). Cons: The only downside was getting used to the length. I hit an 8 iron from 154 out expecting to be all over the pin and actually flew the green and hit a bunker. Once I learned what my distance increase was I was hitting about 4 to 5 feet short of the pin and rolling up close. I am an 11 handicap and have only broken 80 twice in my life. I honestly think that I could easily start breaking 80 much more often if I continue on with this ball. Hitting 6 or 7 iron into a green is so much better than trying to get a five or four to hit and stop on a green. Especially the quick greens at my club. Quality: The Tour Straight is a three piece ball made by Spalding who as I am told invented the three piece ball. That is the same basic idea that Titliest Callaway and all the other guys are using now. The trick part is that the cover of this ball is made with Teflon. The idea is that the ball will not stick to the face of the club as long producing less side spin and in effect makes the ball fly straighter. As we all know straighter means longer. The cover held up all round without a mark and the ball although a little firm putted right on line.. Review Summary: After playing Titliest for so long it was odd for me to look down and see somethng differant. I will tell you though this ball is far superior to any other golf ball I have played including Pro V1 and the Lady ball and even the Noodle. If this ball doesnt become the #1 ball by amatuer golfers I will be amazed. I can tell you right now try it its worth every penny. Purchase: $40 online at TGW. Was looking for a ball to review that would give me a little better chance of hitting it straight into the fairway. I'm struggling to break 100 consistently and anything I can do to help with my driver is good money spent. Pros: Ball seems nice and soft and in those areas where I have decent touch (around the greens and putting), the performance of the ball really helped me to nail some close in shots.
The obvious green arrow stamped into the ball cover is a nice, easy way to line things up and really helps in my opinion. There's nothing worse than playing with something akin to a Nike ball where the swoosh logo really screws with your alignment. Believe me, I need every little bit of help I can get. Cons: I really didn't notice a difference with the Teflon cover. Sure, I shank the ball quite a bit, but on those holes where I'm pretty straight a greater percentage of the time, I didn't see much of a difference. If you're more consistent with your drives (consistently slicing for example), you might notice a slight difference. Quality: Well made ball with soft Teflon cover and high coverage dimple pattern. Played 18 with with the same ball with no visible marring of the outer shell which tells me it's a quality ball that's not going to fall apart on you. Review Summary: You really have to have a better game to get the most out of this ball. I think that the Teflon cover might make a difference if I was a consistent slicer, but unless you're a 10 handicapper that modifies your stance to compensate for your slice you probably won't notice too much of a difference. What I did notice was the additional feel on chip shots around the green and on the putting surface. All in all, a little pricey in my opinion, but if you've "got game", this ball could help shave a few strokes.
