Purchase: I purchased a dozen at a golf equipment "superstore" in Myrtle Beach for $28.00
Pros: The Strata Tour Ultimate really performs exceptionally in all the important categories: distance, feel, and spin. This ball just seems to take off with a nice stable trajectory when hit with a driver. For a "soft" ball with great feel and workability, this ball gets plenty of distance, just marginally shorter than the Pro V1. You hear a nice muted click when you hit this ball with a long iron and you can really shape the shot if you need to. Where this ball really shines is off of the short irons and wedges. The Tour Ultimate has one of the softest covers on the market, with a Shore D hardness rating of around 50. There are not many balls out there that will hold a green better than the Tour Ultimate. This ball will take a divot and spin right back. Even on really hard and fast greens, this ball will check up and stop on a dime, allowing you to really attack the pin. In my experience, I find that all solid, non-wound balls, putt extremely well with a stable and consistent line, whether its a two-piece or multilayer ball, and the Tour Ultimate is no exception. If you miss a putt, its because of you, not the ball. Of all the premium tour-quality golf balls out there, I think Strata golf balls are among the best values with performance as good, or exceeding those of other premium balls at at usually a far more reasonable price.
Cons: The only negative about this ball is that the cover durability is not very high at all. Wedges will usually take a bite out of the ball. However, the cover durability for most premium balls are not going to be as good as a rock hard, surlyn covered distance ball. This is just the compromise you have to make for a ball with this type of green-holding spin capability and soft feel.
Quality: This is a four piece, multi-layered golf ball. All the balls were well made with no blemishes, as should be expected with balls in this price range. The printing on the ball is neat with a nice colored logo.

Review Summary: The best bang for the buck among the premium golf balls on the market. This ball will compare favorably with the best out there.

Purchase: bought this ball from golf show, the man that sold me the dozen said when you try this ball it will be the last ball you will try.
Pros: the distance off the driver is long and also straight, chipping is great and no ball putts like these balls.
Cons: what i do not like is the company does not make these balls anymore. they came out with the strata tour ultimate 2 but the ball is bad. you hit that ball on the green and you will be chipping back to the green as it does not hold the green like the original (tour ultimate ) i have not tried there new ball, the ace yet and probably will not until i run out of the original ball.
Quality: simply the best.around the green, stop on a dime and will give you nine cents change.

Review Summary: the cny made a bad mistake when they quit making this ball.

Purchase: I got it off the internet for about $20 for a dozen.
Pros: It's really soft and just sits on the green. If you catch it clean you don't have to worry about it running on the dance floor. This ball is great from a hundred yards and in because it allows you to confidently go at the pin, even from the rough. It's also surprisingly long, it has a great feel with the driver and takes off on a solid trajectory.
Cons: It's usually pretty expensive and the cover scuffs pretty easily. Not good if you have trouble with a slice or hook.
Quality: A multilayer ball with a tungsten core. It has the softest cover (Zynthane II) I've ever felt, it's like butter. It's a great ball that keeps it's shape well.

Review Summary: Great all-around performing, high end ball with an emphasis on short game control.

Purchase: On-line at Golfballs.com, $22/dozen in December 2002
Pros: Love the feel of these balls. You hear much about the spin around the greens, and on shorter irons. It's all true. I've also found this ball to be as close to the Wilson True Tour with respect to holding it's putting line. It's a very good ball on the green as well as 150yds or less. Off the driver, this ball is no slouch as expected from strata. I haven't played the new Hogan ball, yet, but this ball compares closely with the pro-V1 which is my ball of choice. If you can find the Tour ultimate at the price I did, there is not another ball that can compare, but if you are willing to spend $40 on a dozen of balls, try the Pro-V1 or the Ben Hogan Tour as they are slightly better than the tour ultimate.
Cons: I have not found this ball to be as scuffable as mentioned in other reviews. I have played with a single ball many times for complete rounds without even a mark on the cover. There are occasions however especially on wedge play, where scuffs have occured, but generally speaking, they are durable for adequate ball striking.
Quality: High grade is the best description I can give, conmpares to the more expensive balls very well, but not as durable as Pro-V1 which I have never scuffed or torn.

Review Summary: See above, putting it all together, if you can find these balls at a price less than $25, buy them up, there's not a better ball which encompasses a combination of spin and accuracy than this one. If you want purely distance or purely spin, then select another ball, but next to Pro-V1, this is the best ball around.

Purchase: dicks sporting good store in the spring $36.99
Pros: in my opinion the best ball made. long off the tee and man does it ever hold the green.putting with this ball and you will say wow, what a ball.
Cons: the ball nicks up easy.
Quality: the beast of balls, the best i have ever played with including the prov1

Review Summary: the best for beginners or the low handicappers

Purchase: Year end sale at the course I play - paid approximately 50 cdn per dozen.
Pros: I played this brand all season and was able to drop my score from a sad 105 to consistant 90. Even managed an 81 on one unbelievable day. The strata product played a respectable 260 plus yards off the tee, but that was not it strength. THIS BALL STOPS ON A DIME. The greens at my course do not promote backspin, but I know the ball is doing its job. An excellent ball for someone who wants to drive for show, but chip for dough.
Cons: Softer outer layer can scuff or rub with wedge like clubs. Lob wedge brutualizes this ball.
Quality: Overall - a great ball! I only would compare it to the Pro V1 and Callaway HX, but way cheaper. Don't have to sell your house if you lose one of these.

Review Summary: Buy these and enjoy your lower score.

Purchase: I bought them at a sports store for 37.00$
Pros: I love the stickage immediately when you hit it on the green you can skull i and it will probably sit.
Cons: the oonly problem with the tour ultimate is that it scratches way to easily
Quality: its a soft ball and its very attractive becasue of the circle over the strata logo.

Review Summary: This is a great buy they are around 10.00$ less than prov1 but much more affective on the links.

Purchase: Paid $40 at the Venango Trail golf club in Cranberry Twp. PA. I was heading out for a Sunday morning 9 and low on balls so I figured I'd give these a try. I'm just starting to break 100 consistently this year and looking for different types of equipment to augment my game and help shave a stroke or two here and there.
Pros: On the mid and short irons, the Tungsten Energy Core and soft feeling ZYNTHANE III cover make it a piece of cake to put some backspin on your shots. This was especially important on wedge shots of around 100 yards where I have the tendency to go for the pin. Dropping that ball down just up from the pin and having it stop and roll back on a few approaches was highly rewarding.
Cons: There wasn't much I didn't like about this ball. The softer cover made even fat shots feel less painful, but I didn't really notice a great deal of distance that should have been there because of the Tungsten Enery Core.
Quality: First rate. Again, Tungsten Energy Core, Zynthane III cover. Strata balls are really first rate I'm finding as I'm beginning to use them more and more. Used to be a big Titleist Pro V1 fan, but am finding more reasons to experiment with other balls.

Review Summary: Not cheap, but a great ball. Didn't improve my game that much, except for a few wedge shots that spun nicely back towards the whole potentially saving an extra putting stroke. May seem like a minor advantage, but then again, we pay a lot for golf and when you play good you enjoy it more.. Who cares if you spend an extra few bucks..
