On 2005-04-19, tylerwigs rated this TaylorMade 5580XD W/ Mitsubishi X-Stiff a 3...(5415)

Purchase: Bought on EBAY, mostly because I found it for $90.00. The listing was spelled wrong and had no hits on it with no reserve. Steal! I was using the 360XD with success but needed to choke down on the stock stiff shaft because it was whippy.
Pros: It is very long when I figured out it's unique setup characteristics. The mitsubishi shaft is fantastic. Even on mishits the ball goes LONG. the mistakes are not as bad with this club, partly because the club head is forgiving and partly due to the low torque of the shaft. i also have a terrific medium, boring ball flight that never balloons.
Cons: The club is very light, too light regardles of shaft. As usual the TM grip stinks. The standard rule for teeing up your ball chnages with this club. I needed to tee the ball up lower to get the sweet spot consistently. The club, while not 460cc's seems bigger than any other club and is deceptivly hard to hit the center on a regular basis.
Quality: Too light! But the club head is as hot as I have played and mild mistakes stay long and straight. The mitsubishi shaft adds to the length and ability to return club to square WITH LESS TWISTING. You can feel the shafts benefits immediatly.

Review Summary: I have only played with the club a short time and it is okay. Like any golfer I want length and control, this club provides length for sure. The forgiveness is average, only because off center hits seem to be a problem with this club (other reviews too). This may be due to the lack of weight in the clubhead though. As for working the ball, so far there has been no real consistency. If anybody can work it consistently by design, they must be a a scratch golfer.

Went to the range yesterday to practice. Took the new 9.5* driver to test it out. I hit it a lot better than I figured I would with that factory insta
