Details: 10.5 degree, carbon regular flex shaft
Purchase: I picked up the 580XD from Golf Galaxy on a 109.00 clearance sale. I have played almost exclusively with Taylor Made drivers having one of the original steel Burners and then a 300. I never had much luck with the 300. Both my sons use monster Cleveland Laucher and Hi-bore so I decided to go with a new monster club as well. I couldn't pass up the price for the 580. In all honesty it felt better than the much more expensive R7, Nike, Callaway and others that I tried. Pros: I took it to the driving range. The first ball I hit carried well over the 200 yard sign (longest sign posted) and was straight as and arrow. The only way I messed up a shot was when I purposely tried too. With a decent setup and normal swing (for me) every shop was within 10 yards of the center line. I was amazed. The club has proven itself in several rounds thereafter as well. Cons: I'm not a fan of velvet style grips. An since thats easily replaced I have no complaints or criticism of this club. Quality: I like the traditional style head. It just looks more natural at address. Taylor Made has always made top notch drivers in my opinion. Review Summary: The club lives up to all its boosts. I'm convinced I'll be down into the low 80's very soon.

Details: It is 9.5* and has a Mitsubishi Rayon Tour Stiff Shaft which compliments this driver to the MAX. It is very long and accruate.
Purchase: I bought this driver off of Ebay for $149.99 and it is the best driver I have hit and believe me I have hit plenty. Pros: I like the ball flight, distance and most of all it has kept me playing out of the short grass. Cons: I can't think of a thing bad to say about the Taylor Made 580XD...wish I had gone to it sooner. Quality: I have had no problems with the quality of this driver...Taylor Made rocks! I have since also gone to Taylor Made R5 Dual fairway woods. Review Summary: I am going to give the Taylor Made R7 a shot with the same shaft to see if there is any big difference...I will relate the comparsions in a future review. Purchase: $210 at Golfsmith.com I wanted a driver to get the ball higher than my 8.5 degree 580 and like the feel of my old TaylorMade driver, so I decided to upgrade. Pros: Wow- what's NOT to like?! I immediately got my launch angle higher and my carry improved by 10 yards. At he beginning I lost about 20 yards in distance because of less roll and after a month of juggling was just about to give up on it, but I was hitting it so much straighter and purer than my old 8.5 degree I just kept at it. Now after 2 months I'm hitting it just as far averaging about 280 yards and I do NOT use a stiff shaft- my swing speed is 100 mph, nothing to brag about- but I'm in control of the driver for the first time in my life- what a difference! I've dropped 3 strokes off my handicap just because of this club. An added bonus is the sweet crack at impact that TaylorMade drivers have- guaranteed to turn heads when you bomb one out there... Cons: NOTHING! In fact I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me get another one to keep in case anything ever happens to this one! Quality: C'mon, it's a TaylorMade- expect nothing but the finest quality. Review Summary: Fabulous club for mid-handicappers ( I play to a 13, mostly because I have no short game) PLEASE DON'T BUY ONE- they were made about 3 years ago and I want to make sure I get another one before they're all gone. Purchase: Stow Acres pro shop, used $150 Pros: I think the YS6 Regular flex shaft is a great fit with this beautiful head. It is regular, but unlike other "R"'s I've tried, I don't notice any twisting and not much lag. Miss hits, of which I have many, go far and generally stay in play. This driver is way longer than my previous, a stiff-shafted Cleveland launcher. Cons: Quality: Review Summary: A steal at present prices. This is very near the currently technology for 1/5 the costs because it is 4 years old now. I've hit latest and greatest drivers that friends have and none feel any nicer or longer than my 580xd, with the YS6-R shaft. On 2005-08-22, RicRol rated this TaylorMade 580XD a 4...(6092)
Purchase: I bought a lefthand 9 1/2 degree stiff Taylormade 580XD off of Ebay for $170.00. I wanted to try a larger headed driver than my Cobra SZ 400 Tour. Pros: I liked everything about the appearance of the club. The driver was very solid on center hits and had a good trajectory. I won the long drive contest in the first tournament I used it. Cons: I wasn't pleased with the factory grip and I probably could have used a stiffer shaft. Overall I found the Cobra a more versatile driver to control. Quality: Other than the grip this club is very well made. Review Summary: A real bargain. I hit the R5 and I see little or no difference. Purchase: DiMarco Golf, Mississauga, Ontario Canada
I paid $268.00 plus tax...but believe me, it was worth every cent.
Pros: A week ago, I used a friend's TM540XD and drove the ball 280 yards with it. I immediately went out and bought this TM580XD and today i played with it the first time and never missed a fairway for all the 18 holes. I average 15 yards more with it. i shot 5 strokes better than my average. I hope to better that in the days to come. Now, i understand what it mean to "DRIVE FOR DOUGH". Cons: Oh...the only thing do not like about this unit is the head-cover. I hate the long neck sock, althoug the design is very attractive. I wish TaylorMade would make headcovers like the Ping....so much easier to remove and replace with. Quality: The TM580XD was well made like all high end drivers. Review Summary: For those of you who are struggling to gain a few yards...go get the TM540XD or TM 580XD. You will never regret it.

Purchase: Bought on eBay for $159+17 shipping. I have never had a driver tha I paid more than $50.
My game did not deserve it. I have played for
18 years and I am finally playing to a 16 handicap. I play ten times a year, so I am playing probably the best I can now. Time to buy a REAL driver. Reviews of 580XD appealed to me. Hit it at a local golf range. Range balls went 270+. My driver with hot ball-250+. Pros: It looks good at address and it hits solid. Mis hits aren't nearly as bad. Hit it on the screws and you can be way ahead of your foursome. Cons: not much. The regular flex is good, I probably could have went to the stiff, but I would have lost some control. Quality: Great titanium head with visually stunning colors. The COR at .830 is maxed out and the inverted cone technolgy creates a rebound effect that jumps at ball. Review Summary: With the newer r7 and r5, the 580/540 series have dropped way in price. If you wait til 2007 you can pick up this club for less than $100. But, if you want the best driver for the price-$170 would be the highest price you should pay-get this and you won't need a new driver for 5 years. Purchase: I purchased on ebay for $150.00 simply because I could not find the fairway consistently enough with my other drivers. Pros: I have always taken some pride with my long drives, but some of those drives get somewhat eractic the harder I swing. I have finally found the driver that allows me to come out of my shoes and still be very long on the fairway. Adjusting to the XD did not take very long tough I must admit at first I could not hit it as long as my PING or Pinseeker Ti. This driver is so forgiving I only missed one fairway the first round I used it. The 9.5 head launches the ball much higher than I'm used to but the end result is still long and in play. Cons: No dislikes Quality: The club is has a great feel and allows for a consistent swing. No problems so far. Review Summary: This driver is very forgiving and long but best of all, this driver allows me to swing as hard I naturally do and still get great results. Purchase: Acquired at Palos Golf Shop. I was looking for a larger head in my driver.
Paid $249.99 Pros: This is a five star club. I had been admiring it for some time, but was not ready to pay the prices that most drivers of this quality were asking. Then the r7 came out and the price began to drop, and now that the r5 is out, the price of the 580XD has dropped even further. It can be found for about 250 dollars at many locations. The clubhead is 440cc, and simply inspires confidence. The face is very deep, more so than most drivers of this size, and very pleasing to the eye at address. When swinging this club, you feel that you can't help but hit a good drive, so it takes away much of the jitters that one experiences when one stands on the tee with his buddies watching, hoping the ball will go long and straight down the fairway. Instead, you expect it to go long and straight down the fairway. One aspect that I especially like is the shaft. Nowadays you never know what you are going to get when it comes to flex in these ultralight shafts. TaylorMade seems to have gotten it right. So many companies offer shafts that are softer than the flex listed on the shaft, sending the ball left off the tee. TaylorMade plays true to the flex listed on the shaft, which is very refreshing. The shaft works best for those who have a good, late release, and has a crisp snap at the bottom of the swing. The sweet spot is big, so even if you are off a bit you will still get a good drive. I think that the head is geared more toward those that miss vertically than horizontalty because of the depth of the face, but it is very forgiving to those who miss the sweet spot to the right or left as well. As an added bonus, face height has a greater effect on spring effect than face width. Cons: So far I have not found anything that I do not like about this driver. Quality: This club is superior to others that I have tried, very high quality. Review Summary: Many manufacturers offer alternative shaft options to their OEM line; I don't think that TaylorMade needs to do so. This shaft feels great. I swing approximately 90 MPH, which is about what most male golfers swing. I found the regular shaft to be perfect for my game. If you are looking for a great driver in the $250 price range, this should be your first option, and I highly recommend that you try it at the hitting net of your local pro shop. You will love the feel, and when you get out on the course, you will love the results. On 2004-08-31, SOUPII rated this TaylorMade 580XD a 4...(4229)
Purchase: I acquired this club at Schuylkill County Country Club in Orwigsburg, PA
$475.00 Pros: Distance, distance and more distance. The 580XD undoubtedly has increased my distance off the tee. Even going from a right to left ball flight to a high fade the added distance is unmistakeable. I am a 12 handicap and do not always hit the ball flush. The 580XD is very forgiving. If you catch the ball dead center of this club--look out. Great sound, great distance, long high ball flight it's wonderful. Cons: My only disappointment is workability. I previously played with a 9.0 degree, closed face, Callaway VFT. Maybe this can be contributed to the closed, but with VFT I am able to hit a draw. The 580xd has forced me to live with a high fade.
In additon, I had to send my 580XD back to Taylor Made for repairs. The shaft snapped on my follow through during a early morning round with the boys. The following day I returned the club to Schuylkill CC only to find a broken shaft was the least of my problems. The top half of the club face was collapsing. This club had only seen a dozen trips to the range and 7 rounds---NOT GOOD. My disappoinment grew the following week. The R7 which was loaned to me by the club proved to be the much more classy, wealthy, understanding, intelligent, sport loving, come home when you want to,no flack giving younger sister of the 580XD. THIS THING IS THE BEST. Back to my draw, equal distance I love it. The same pro shop which was loaded with 580XD's one month ago was now wall to wall with R7. Taylor Made accepted the 580XD's back in exchange for an order of R7's. What a bummer for us who spent 400 plus on the 580XD. Understanding they are two different clubs I still feel like I am a victim of the sales department. (my profession= salesmen) Quality: The 440cc head took some getting used to. Due to my problems with the shaft breaking and the club face failing, I am a little leary about the quality of this club. Review Summary: The 580XD is a great club and won my heart over others. I do not think the workability is there, but distance, feel and overall performance is The intro of the R7 will either upset golfers or make them reach in their pockets and buck up for the R7. With a new born son my budget will require me to continue with the 580XD. Not a bad problem to have.

Purchase: Borrowed it from a friend at a driving range. I found that I hit it a lot straighter and farther than any other driver I ever hit. Bought it on Ebay for about $290. Pros: It's light with a big head which makes it extremely easy to hit. It has an explosive face - I'm hitting the longest drives of my life and I'm 48 years old. Cons: I couldn't get a 46" shaft so I had to add an insert to make it 46 1/2". Quality: Excellent construction and quality. Looks great at setup. Review Summary: Awesome club. Light, straight and extremely long (carry and roll is unbelievably great). And NO I don't work for TaylorMade. In fact my irons are PING. Purchase: Bought it at golfsmith, used for $300 Pros: Big black face, sounds great when you hit it Cons: Very expensive Quality: I bought it used, looks brand new. Stock grip and shaft look good and feel good. Lots of feedback in club Review Summary: You have to buy this club. I have never hit the ball as long. Out drove my buds by 20 yards. Smiled all the way to my ball On 2004-03-02, Jesse rated this TaylorMade 580XD a 5...(2986)
Purchase: Acquired at Pro Golf for two hundred dollars, plus a hundred and fifty dollar trade in. After reading many reviews I decided I had to try one for myself. After hitting a few shots with just about every club in the store I knew that this Taylor Made was the club for me. Not only did it feel Great, but it looks AWESOME! Pros: I love it's forgivness! It doesn't matter where you hit the ball, (on the toe, or the heel) seems like it goes straight and LONG every time! Cons: Honestly, I don't think there is anything about the club that I don't like! Besides when it get's a little dirty!! Quality: The construction is flawless! I've played with Taylor Made for a long time and never had any problems! Review Summary: Bottom Line is....If you want to hit long and straight tee shots every time...buy one! If you want to out drive all your buddies EVERY time....buy one! Most importantly, if you want to improve your game....buy one! This club is just amazing! You are probably in the same boat I was just a few weeks ago. Trust me, go out and drop some bills on this club. You won't regret it!
