On 2009-05-25, DON rated this TaylorMade R7 CGB Max a 5...(8378)

Details: Used 10.5* loft, factory 45 gram R flex shaft. Red crown with black trim

Purchase: I picked up this driver at a golf swap. It sold new for $500, so I couldn't pass up the CGB for $75.
Pros: Nice looking driver if you don't mind the triangle shaped head. Looks just like the 2009 Burner. Feels pretty good for a light shaft R flex driver. For a light shaft driver, I did manage to hit this CGB very well. I demo'd the new 2009 Burner, and could see ANY difference in performance.
Cons: Club length was only 44-1/2', which is a little short for my tastes. Being used, it didn't come with the head cover or wrench for the weights. The swing weight was only C7, and it's real hard to feel the head of the club during my swing.
Quality: Quality seems very good. About what I expect from all the OEM clubs.

Review Summary: I was very impressed wiht how well I hit this light R flex driver. This is the first 45 gram shaft driver I've ever hit well. And the new Burner is just as good. Since I first hit this driver, I've pulled the shaft and did a spine alignment and FLO test on the shaft. I then installed the shaft with the spine toward the target to make it play a little stiffer. I added a shaft extension to bring the club length up to 45-1/4', a little more to my liking. I also replaced the worn out grip, and installed two 6 gram screw weights to the heel and toe locations. With the factory 1.5 gram weights, the swing weight was only D1. With the two 6 gram weights it came up to D7, which for me is much better. This is a very good driver, and well worth the price if you buy a used one. I think it's a lot better then the new R9 and a lot less money.

On 2009-03-05, J-Sizzle rated this TaylorMade r7 CGB Max a 5...(8289)

Details: This Driver has a 45' Aldilia graphite shaft in Reg Flex and has 10.5* of loft.

Purchase: I had demoed this club about 6 months prior to actually purchasing it and it felt solid. However, the demo was inside and I never trust that performance completely. I was in the market for a new driver (I was playing the TaylorMade r5 for a couple of years prior) and found the r7 CGB Max used on Ebay for $100, considering this club retailed for $400 two years ago I felt it was a steal.
Pros: The club is solid and instills confidence on the tee. In comparison to the r5 (which I liked very much) the CGB Max is probably a hair longer off the tee and it is great at finding fairways. The most significant advantage with this club is it's ability to cover-up mishits without too much distance loss.
Cons: To be honest, there is not much I do not like about the club. It is not the longest club I have ever hit but it is one of the most accurate.
Quality: TaylorMade is tops in my book when it comes to putting together a quality product.

Review Summary: If you are looking for an accurate driver and do not want to sacrifice distance then I think the CGB Max is the club for you.

On 2007-12-13, DocT rated this TaylorMade R7 CGB Max a 5...(7977)

Details: 10.5 degre loft. 1.5-degree closed, 460cc titanium face featuring ICT, and PFC. 6-4 Titanium body. 2-piece construction with PFC. Regular flex, 45.5' stock RE*AX SuperFast 45 Mitsubushi Rayon shaft with stock TM Arrow Lite grip. It comes with 1 16-gram and 2 1-gram TLC weights.

Purchase: Purchased the TaylorMade R7 CGB Max driver from a local Golfsmith store as soon as it was in stock. Paid $489 + tax. This is the most expensive driver I've ever purchased. It was a bit frightening, but I did it.
Pros: Since I'm a natural fader, I configured the weights in a draw bias configuration (16 gram at the heel, and 1-gram at the toe and back). I always liked the RE*AX shafts in Taylormade products, and this shaft is just as great, if not better. Swinging the club is really easy and confident, thanks to the shaft no doubt. Grip is comfortable. Contact with the ball sounds the same as the R7 460 driver. Ball flight is incredible. The ball literally flies off the face and goes up high. Might not be suitable for the pros or a windy day, but hey, you can always tee the ball lower. I really like swinging this club as it gives me the confidence to get the ball up into the air instead of worm burning. I'm sure it's all psychological, but it works for me.
Cons: There really isn't anything I don't like about this driver. Well, maybe the red or maroon colored crown could have been the usual TM black. Other than the crown color, I wouldn't change a thing.
Quality: Quality of the driver is nothing less than expected from TaylorMade.

Review Summary: Great product, great driver. Excellent results. Swing easy and watch the ball fly. I'd recommend this to anyone who has difficulty getting the ball up in the air.
