On 2005-05-31, Steve B rated this TaylorMade Rossa Daytona 1 CGB a 5...(5589)

Purchase: Bought it at Golfsmith for $99. Traded in a Scotty Cameron Red X and used the credit.
Pros: I initially loved this putter when demoing but was upsold to the Cameron Red X. I should have gone with my gut because the Red X, while a fine putter, did not quite click with me. I traded it in for the Rossa and a store credit. I love the look and feel of this blade putter from Taylor Made. It instills great confidence, which results in terrific performance. Touch is better than any putter I've used to date. The putter's balance and feel off of the alloy insert are terrific. Nice grip and headcover. A smooth stroke is well-rewarded. My lag puts are almost always a perfect distance. I'm also sinking more 6+ footers than ever before; 3 footers are a "shoe in." This putter has a very high MOI for its blade-like design. Better than the mallet Red X and approaching many of the high MOI putters on the market. Add in the "feel" factor, and in my opinion, there's a lot to love here.
Cons: Depending on the direction of sunlight coming off of the red face insert, there is the rare ocassion when a red glare reflects back onto the ball (which can be distracting). Other than this very minor quibble, I have absolutely nothing to complain about.
Quality: Excellent construction with a high attention to detail. While the Cameron showed some very minor defects (such as visible breaks in the material surrounding the "German Stainless Steel" insert), I am hard pressed to find any defects with this Rossa.

Review Summary: It's great to find such a value. At $99., with this look and technology, this putter is a no-brainer for me. Believe me... why trade in a Cameron Red X unless the replacement works better? I have no regrets! Decisions on putters are very personal. Try the Taylor Made Rossa Daytona 1 before you buy anything else... particularly if you aren't hung up on the branded mistique of Cameron.
