On 2006-10-28, Doug rated this TaylorMade Hybrids a 5...(7492)

Details: graphite shafts/regular flex. 2,3,4,5 .

Purchase: I bought all my hybrids used on Ebay. All in great condition and at a price of more than half the retail value. Ebay is amazing!!
Pros: The clubs are very easy to hit. They all hit like drivers. No divot to take, hence a rarity in chunking the ball. I can hit a clean 200 to 220 yard #2 (16deg) with consistency and ease. I can hit the 3,4 and 5 so much eaiser than regular clubs. They are really like and are intended to be; mini drivers with regular iron length shafts. They were actually an idea of golfer and commentator Gary MCcord who teamed up with Taylormade to make the 1st proto-type, a hybrid of a driver and an iron. THANKS GARY!!!. Now most touring pros have at least one in their bag and some such as Dana Quigly who swears by them, has earned 13 million on the Champions tour and uses hybrids up to #7. I believe hybrids will make regular irons obsolete within 5 years as more top companys are making them into the higher lofted clubs. (Taylormade will come out with the #6 this fall 2006) It's simple, these clubs will give the average golfer new hope and the seasoned Golfer an advantage the way the new drivers and ball construction have.
Cons: As of now October 2006, Taylormade has only #2, 3,4 and 5 hybrids. Other companys such as Cleveland, Callaway and other top companys have them as high as #1 to #7. Although Taylormade is coming out with the #6 this fall, I will have to search for a comprable #7 hybrid.
Quality: Excellant quality you expect from Taylormade.

Review Summary: These clubs are like computers and cell phones were in the last 10 years. Only a few people had them because they were expensive and untried. And many people said, who needs to have a phone on you, when you can always use a pay phone or call when you get home. Then they quickly became mainstream. This is the Hybrid club. They are just so much easier and more fun to hit than iron clubs. Some diehards will hold out, but for the masses you can't stop progress and in this case no reason to.
