On 2004-08-26, Stillwater Tom rated this TaylorMade Rescue Mid Tour Preferred 16 Degrees a 5...(4173)

Purchase: The Golf Warehouse for $279.00.
Pros: When TaylorMade first came out with the Rescue Club line in '98 I tried one and have been hooked ever since. The new version, and in particular the Tour Preferred, is an excellent club for a variety of shots...from the rough, off the fairway and off the tee...it can't be beat. The TP version is designed for lower handicap players...I play to a 9...and is a bit of a club to handle if you don't have a repeating, hit it on the screws type of swing...but if you do, this is a club for you! There are several courses that I play routinely that I use the 16 degree on and there are a few where I leave it at home and go with the same club in 19 degrees. The 16 degree is shafted with the stock Fujikura in stiff and the 119 degree with a Dynamic Gold in stiff...I still haven't figured out why I need one in steel and one in graphite, but as I went through the demo process I found the two set-ups worked best in the individual clubs.
Cons: Nothing...
Quality: I have to admit that in over forty years of playing golf my original, circa '98, Rescue Club is the only golf club I've ever owned that actually "fell apart" on me. The two TP's that I have are very well made.

Review Summary: Every time you turn around someone is recommending that you try a utility club and for once these people are right...you should try a utility club! This is one of those rate golf clubs that are an investment rather than an expense. Demo as many as you can in as many set-ups as possible...there are a lot of club makers who have joined in on this market segment but I think TaylorMade still has it cornered, as far as I'm concerned.
