On 2005-05-23, << monsieur garcia >> rated this TaylorMade Rescue mid 3-iron a 4...(5548)

Purchase: This was the first club i had ever bought for myself. Got it from Golfsmith for about $170.00 steel shaft. Needed some sort of game improvement club for my 18 handicap (a year later I was an 11).
Pros: When I first bought the club, I was hitting it very well, long, high straight, so I thought 'What more could you want in a club?' I greatly improved my game at the time and it fit my swing perfectly. I had about an 80 mph swing and I was hitting it right on the money 200-210 every time (consistency became a part of my game!). I thought that I would never give the club up.
Cons: It wasn't until the following year when I went through a swing change. Before, I was consistently hitting a fade/slice (like most beginners), however when I learned the errors of my swing, it changed (for the better). I ended up swinging with a very slight draw and with much more consistency. Unfortunately when I applied this to my rescue, it was hitting an all-out hook. I spent several days on the driving range trying to find chemistry between my swing and the club, but it never worked. I was hitting 2/3 shots with a nasty hook, and 1/3 shots dead straight. When I brought my real 3-iron back into the bag it was going just as far as the rescue, but with more consistency than the dismal 2/3 hooks. The grip also sucked balls. I wish I had changed that at least.
Quality: Taylor Made makes top notch equipment and this is no exception. The only complaint I have is the grip, but I mentioned that already.

Review Summary: All in all, a solid club. I would not think twice about recommending it to the average weekend duffer. Even some experienced players could shave strokes with this given that they consistently hit a slight fade. The club that I would recommend to the mid-low handicapper is the TP version. I hit my friends TP at the range recently and it went so damn far that I could replace my driver with it. It is made with less offset, lower launch angle, and it comes (stock) with a Fujikura Vista Pro 90 shaft. Definitely made for the better golfer. It won't cure a swing like the rescue, but it will certaintly make the most of it.
