On 2002-11-25, N2Golf rated this TaylorMade Rescue-Mid Utility Clubs a 5...(829)

Purchase: I purchased the clubs at Golf Galaxy in Salt Lake City. The clubs cost $179.00 with graphite shafts, a price that is consistently uniform at any retail outlet including internet retailers. I acquired the clubs to provide more consistency for my game in the long-iron distances to the green.
Pros: The clubs have tremendous feel, which is my top priority in irons. For me to play well from 200 yds and in clubs have to be responsive and provide good feedback. These clubs do it all, with crisp yet soft feel on all shots from all lies. One weakness of other utility clubs I have used is how they play off tight lies. The new TMade Rescue-Mids, by contrast, play well even when confronted by very tight lies. As well, these clubs will add 5-10 yards to your normal, full-swing iron distances in the coiunterpart clubs. These clubs can replace the 2, 3, 4, and 5 irons if you buy the full set.
Cons: It's not a dislike as much as it is a matter of precision. In order to put enough spin on the ball to stop it quickly, the player will need to focus on a clean, precise ball-strike. U-shaped, sweeping strokes off the fairway will not put very much backspin on the ball. In fact, for all levels of handicappers, a low-spin distance ball will be hard to stop quickly. But with a softer, higher spin ball, the golfer will be able to stop the ball quickly. For example, I have switched from the Callaway HX Red 3-piece, to its Blue counterpart. Minor sacrifice of distance is worth the major advantage these clubs give me in the 160-210 yardage range.
Quality: It's an elegant club, solidly built, worthy of the TMade name. When you hold one, you know you have a masterpiece in your hands.

Review Summary: If you have a solid golf-swing, these revolutionary clubs will shave several strokes off your average score. Look for them to start showing up on the Tour.
