On 2006-07-20, Davey Jones rated this Titleist NXT a 4...(7284)

Purchase: I bought a couple sleeves at a proshop in Ohio after a round of losing a few. They were $6.99 for each sleeve. For a long time now I have been trying to find a good ball with distance that is soft. My play has improved of late and the search for a better ball than Top Flites has had me auditioning EVERYTHING in my weekly round with the guys.
Pros: I like it, and don't love it. It is definitely better than the bargain 2-piece balls that are so popular...(Like Loco, SoLo, Noodle)...but I am not convinced it exceeds the other balls in it's own price range. (I'm thinking of e6, and Ignite... (basically the $25/doz. range of balls.) The performance is good, it goes far and it doesn't freak you out by rolling out too much. It will check up occasionally, but don't expect to back it up.
Cons: I don't think it is worth the $$. Titleist makes a good 2-piece ball, with the same dimple pattern and everything, and for $8-LESS/doz. which is actually a better ball! It's called Pinnacle Exception. If it's the SAME ball, with just a different logo, why pay more? I think it is actually less ball than the Exception, which rolls true-er on greens and feels way better of the club face with every club. The NXT is good and not great, the reason is that it is jumpy at times. Off the putter it can shock you by springing off the face one time, and coming up short other times. I think it beats a lot of balls but when the $ is factored in, there are balls that cost less that are just as good. Big Bertha and AD333 are just as good as the NXT for less $$. You pay more for Titleist so they can pay pro golfers to play them in tournaments.
Quality: High quality, good looking, low-tech ball.

Review Summary: Good ball for the avid amateur. It is overpriced. When you factor in performance and price, as most of us do, as well as the likelihood of lost balls for those of us who mis-hit occasionally, I would say why pay more? There are several equally good balls with more modern technology in them, for less money. I am thinking of Big Bertha, AD333, and Maxfli RedMax. In the similar price range to the NXT, you can find way better balls that have 3-piece performance and spin with distance, that easily exceed the NXT. Bridgestone e6 for example, and my fave, the Nike Ignite. If the ball HAS to say Titleist for ego or political reasons, go for it. If not, look around. Exception by Pinnacle is a steal at $18/doz., and a better ball to boot. This ball is a 4, and if you facor in the price, it's a 3.

Purchase: Purchased off ebay, used but AAA condition. Paid 19.00 for three doz.
Pros: The distance is not bad but I've had better results with other balls.
Cons: I hit the ball fairly well but I could not get through one hole without the scuffing the cover. It's frustrating to finish a hole and look at your ball with one or two significant scuffs.
Quality: I suppose it's ok but the cover issued soured me on the ball.

Review Summary: I play ProV1x too and prefer them way over the NXT but of course they cost a bunch more. I was hoping the NXTs would be a practical alternative...my search continues.

Purchase: Golf Clearance Outlet Store for $24.99
Pros: Well all the hype on tour is about the Titleist ProV1 ball, which is a premium product no doubt; however, at around 40 bucks a dozen is a tad out of range for the average joe with a mortgage, bills and kids to feed to afford on a regular basis. Enter the NXT, a similar product to the ProV1 in more ways than one and definitely more user friendly. First off, shave about 20 bucks off the ProV1 price and you're there. I paid 24.99 for the dozen I got and they can be had for a bit cheaper, but youll never pay more than 25 or 26 I would assume based on what I have seen. Common sense tells me that if you can find a good ball for a decent price that helps you outdrive the rest of your foursome on a regular basis, you WILL LEARN to use it around the green. Many balls focused on distance and carry these days lack the feel and touch around the green to make the difference for many players. Not the case here; NXT is long and solid off of the tee and soft and workable from 100 yards and in. A very good performer all around in every sense. Many like me, in the 18-25 handicap range, dont find themselves dropping an approach shot on the green and spinning it back to the pin, it just doesnt happen. Usually we hack it out of a greenside bunker or or knock it on in 3 trying to get it close. If you fall in this category, the NXT is your ball. While it may lack the bite and spin of some other balls, it's long, straight tendency off of the tee and overall solid feel will suit you just fine. I tried this ball as a test at the same time I tried the Precept Laddie and the Maxfli Noodle. It blew the Noodle away, and outperfomed the Laddie by a decent margin as well.
Cons: 20-30 bucks for a dozen, while reasonable, is still a tad high for us blue collar 50 hour a work week guys. But its still not a bad deal for a great ball
Quality: Mid 60's compression, soft fusablend core- ideal for mid to high handicappers who need medium feel and a low amount of spin resulting in long and straight shots from tee to green

Review Summary: A good deal, certainly worth the 20 bucks you save by passing on the ProV1 Tour ball; leave those to Davis Love III and Mike Weir who actually get paid to play their equipment.
