On 2003-10-15, B in Cabo rated this Titleist 983E a 5...(2464)

Purchase: For a couple of years I had been using a Titleist 975J, Pro-force S shaft, 7.5 degree driver, which I liked very much. On the range I made the mistake of hitting a Titleist 983K, Harmon GXS shaft, 8.5 degree and it flew right past my 975. However, on the course I hit it a little high and right. So I special ordered a 983E, 757 Speeder S shaft and 8.5 degree loft from Pacific Discount Golf in Federal Way, Wash. for $525.
Pros: This driver sits square at address and hits the ball on a rope with a high launch but flat boring trajectory. The ball flight is long with a lot of roll after touchdown. Whether I swing firm, or jump on it, the ball doesn't seem to wander too far left or right of target. This is, without question, the longest, straightest hitting driver I have ever owned.
Cons: I find it a little more difficult to work the ball right or left than with the 975. But, doing that is what causes my problems off the tee anyway. So it doesn't matter.
Quality: The quality of the construction in putting the grip, shaft and head together are supurb. Titleist is a top notch company.

Review Summary: For a golfer who wants the classic look along with todays high technology, this is the driver. And, it absolutely smokes the ball off the tee.

Purchase: Purchased this club @ Pro Golf Discount for $370.00 looking for a new driver to help reduce the spin on my drives.
Pros: The Titleist 983E is a very attractive club with a deep face and more classic look at address. This driver is for lower handicap golfers looking to reduce the spin on their tee shots and a low, boring trajectory.
Cons: While this club looks very nice it is very difficult to hit consistently. Mishits can produce very low line-drives and tend to be very unforgiving.
Quality: Beautifully constructed with a wide selection of shafts and classic Titleist look and feel.

Review Summary: Although I loved the look of this club the performance was not what I had hoped.
