Purchase: Bought the club pre-owned from a local golf shop for $325. Was looking for a driver that was forgiving, long, and had a good feel.
Pros: This driver is VERY long and easy to control. The low trajectory and spin (or lack thereof) allows for a player to keep the ball out of trouble. This club also allows you to work the ball from right to left or left to right without sacrificing forgiveness in the clubface. I also like the weight of the clubhead. It's very responsive sending you signals up the shaft on where you've mis-hit. My favorite thing about this club is how it feels when you hit on right on the sweetspot (every club feels good, but there's something unexplainably special about the 983E sweetspot). Extremely solid and has a nice sound at impact. Excellent driver for better golfers to take their game to the next level.
Cons: Don't buy this club if you like high, pretty ball flights containing lots of spin. This club is designed for golfers who want long, low, minimal-spin drives that roll forever. The low trajectory misleads you to think a drive is not very impressive...that is, until you walk a half a mile to your ball! For not-so-good golfers looking for lots of forgiveness, I'd probably have to recommend one of the cobra clubs (427 or 380). They are hard to beat for the price ($299.99 retail). I've also heard the new Nikes (450) are very good as well. You could go out and get the Callaway Big Bertha II, but you'd be spending about $100 too much.
Quality: 983E with 8.5 degree loft with custom UST XL ultra-light S-flex graphite shaft...beautiful combo.

Review Summary: Before buying a driver, make to sure to demo some various options at a driving range or golf course where you can see the flight of the ball. Many people buy drivers just from hitting them into a screen from an indoor mat and are dissapointed when the trajectory isn't what they expected. Also, have a pro "fit" you for a shaft that's right for you. If you love the clubhead but don't like the shafts offerred from the manufacturer, have a pro fit you for a custom shaft. The perfect combination is key when you are looking for accuracy and length off the tee; even if it costs more to get it. For me, paying an extra $50-$100 for the perfect combo is well worth the money.
