On 2004-09-19, John K. rated this Titleist 983K, 9.5, YS6 S flex a 5...(4419)

Purchase: This driver was purchased from Golf Galaxy for the industry standard price of $399.00. I have been a long time Titleist patron because of their commitment to technology while keeping a feel and look of traditional clubs. I went with the masses a few weeks ago and purchased a R580XD, big mistake for and golfer who likes to turn the ball to the left. The 580xd wll not let you work the ball.
Pros: This driver is the 983K 9.5 loft with a YS-6 stiff flex shaft. The head is 365cc's but does not look like most larger heads out there which is great for traditional golfers like myself, it realy looks clean. I am a 3 handicap player with a driver swing speed of 107 mph. My normal tradjectory is medium. I dont feel like I need to help this club to hit it higher and lends itself to "work" to the left or right. The YS-6 shaft is perfect for my swing speed and slow tempo. However someone with a quicker tempo may want to look past this shaft.
Cons: Nothing. There are so many good clubs out there today that you have to find one out there thats just right for you.
Quality: At $399 this better be well made and it is. Everything from material in the head to the no extra charge for an upgraded shaft is well put together and looks great. Most that I have seen all felt the same in my hands which is not the case for most manufacturers. Even the full cord grip is nice when most companies are trying to cut costs by putting a crap standard grip on their drivers. The finish on the bottom od the club does not look onl after the first swing either and my last driver was a 975L fe which I had for 3 years and you could never tell because of the finish on the sole.

Review Summary: The bottom line is this is club is for the golfer looking for a clean traditional looking driver with plenty of distance and workability. My opinion is also that the golfers with lower handicaps (under 7) should take a serious look at the Titleist line of drivers with their different lofts and choices of shafts.
