On 2006-05-29, smithtown golfer rated this Tommy Armour 845 C Silverback a 4...(6981)

Details: True Temper Uniflex Steel 3-PW

Purchase: I bought these clubs from golfstockpile.com. They had caught my eye three-yeras ago, but at the tiem I was not ready for a forged iron. Believe it or not I paid about $200 for the set new as they are discontinued (recently), but well-worth seeking out. The stock grips trash, so I changed them out to Winn G8 XF's. They are stunning clubs.
Pros: They are effortless to hit. They have a low and penetrating trajectory. They are very accurate and have a thin topline (so they don't look too clunky). They are very workable. Distance-wise they are unreal. In my cast heads (Taylormade RAC OS 2003 model reg. flex) an average four iron shot is about 180 yards, by comparison the 845C's are out to 200 yards!
Cons: The reduced offset (typical of most player-level clubs) is a little troublesoem when I don't have my A-game gong. Also there is no Approach wedge availble so I have to be creative with my PW.
Quality: Besides the chaep grips the clubs are of excellent quality and are assembled well.

Review Summary: If you are looking to step it up a notch and can get your hands on a set of these, you will most likely be pretty happy to have made the investment. Again, they are discontinued so finding them will be a little tougher but you'll great a great price discount. I have been an Armour Golf fan since Corey Pavin won the 1996 opened in Shinnecock (Perhaps because I am from Long Island). The company makes a great iron (always has) and it was only financial troubles in the late 1990's that has caused their inability to attract a tour-player to sponsorship (although Craig Staddler played them on theChampions Tour until 2004).
