Purchase: I purchased these through RockBottomGolf.com for $169. After extensive research I found these clubs being closed out at Dick's Sporting Goods for $399, and the other proshops in the area were still selling them for $500+. I became familiar with Rock Bottom through an internet search, and through multiple phone conversations found their service to be the real deal.
I purchased these clubs because I like the way they felt, and the results I immediately saw.
Pros: What do I like about these clubs? That is like asking a golfer why he plays the game. Simply put, these are the best irons I could recommend for anyone who is a 15+ handicapper. They make the game more fun. I have no problem getting the ball up and out. They enable me to hit the ball high, far, and straight. I have found that these clubs are much more forgiving on the off center hits, and the long irons especially are easy to get around on. Everything about these clubs is top notch. I also am a big fan of the Armour name!
Cons: There are only two cautions I would offer concerning these clubs. 1st: the hosel is very well defined. For high handicappers this makes hitting akward lies even tougher. It is easy to come in on the hosel. I would not allow this to discourage anyone from these clubs, but it is worth mentioning. 2nd: Pitching wedge. I have always found stock pitching wedges to be a bit on the shoddy side, and this one is no exception. I normally use my wedge for anything -140, and this wedge is great for anything 100-140. Anything below this, the wedge has too much lift, and it is just not as good as some others I have used. This could also just be my game, but our whole 4 some uses these, and we all have the same complaint on the wedge.
Quality: Construction on the unit is top notch. My pro, when adjusting the lie by 2* did mention how easy it was to adjust, so this could account for something (Tommy Armour has changed hands tons of times over the past few years, and is currently owned by Huffy, yes, the bike people). The construction and quality is excellent though. I would offer just one other piece of caution. The clubs are beautiful right out of the box, and instill tons of confidence at address. After a couple of rounds they do scrape up considerably.
Review Summary: I would recommend these clubs to any high handicapper, especially at the price point they can be had for right now. The quality and results that are delivered are great. For middle handicappers, I would look at some other clubs available, unless your progress is held back on being able to get the ball up and out. These are very excellent clubs though.
