On 2004-03-05, JCB rated this Top Flite XL 3000 Super Straight 15PK a 4...(3015)

Purchase: I went back to the XL 3000 Super Straight this year to start off with. We'll see how my game progresses with my new offset driver. I didn't want to spend a lot and got 2 15 packs of these at Dick's Sporting Goods for $25. Quite a deal if you ask me.
Pros: I like the XL 3000 for how consistently they play for the price. Let's face it, this is one of the least expensive balls in golf, but for someone that shoots right around 100, I'm just struggling to keep my ball in play. The XL 3000 super straight induces less spin off the face of the driver which leads to straighter drives. I just went out and played 9 on my local muni course today and in conjunction with my new shorter, offset driver I think these balls are going to help cure that slice. At least enough that I can get into the 90's and start enjoying the game a little more. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to practice and practice to work the kinks out of my game like some folks. I want to enjoy golf now, so I'm willing to take little shortcuts.
Cons: The cover is pretty hard, so the same things that prevent compression and spin are the same things that make his ball a challenge sometimes around the green. Believe it or not, I'm more comfortable with my iron play than my drives and I'm actually starting to get to the point where I'm adding some finesse and spin to the ball around the greens. The Top Flight XL 3000 Super Straight is not designed for spin and ease of play around the greens.
Quality: Not bad at all. It really takes a hard whack with an iron to scuff or slice the cover on one of these. The ball usually runs out of that fresh bounce before it becomes damaged. Overall a decent ball for a great price.

Review Summary: In summary, I'm going to play the XL 3000's again this year unless I can find a ball I like better in the process. I heard good things about the Dunlop LoCo's and one of the Noodle varieties but unless someone tosses me a 3 pack to try out, I'll probably keep buying these. Can't beat it, 30 balls for under $30.
