On 2005-07-18, Oregonian rated this Tour Edge Exotics Fairway Wood a 5...(5872)

Purchase: I dedicated 2005 to improving my fairway wood play. Historically, this has been a frustrating area for me as I have always been able to kill a 3 wood off a tee but butcher it off the ground. I have worked on this shot this golf season and decided that in addition to practice, a new 3 wood and 7 wood might help my game. Why stop trying to buy a game right? I purchased both woods on-line from Edwin Watts for $349 ea. Their price is the same as everyone else I looked at but they had the clubs in stock and delivered them to me 2 days later...just in time to inflict some damge to the wallets of my Saturday morning group.
Pros: The club is a joy to swing. Visually it is appealing and sets up well at address. The balance and weighting is silky smooth. The club face sits square to the target (except for the 3+ wood which is 1 degree closed). Mis hits still exist. However, the negative results of my mis hits appear to be greatly reduced. The ball tends to fly straighter than other 3 woods I've owned. The ball gets up in the air and has a very satisfying sound when hit.
Cons: It would have been nice if the club was less expensive but it obviuosly didn't stop me from spending the bucks.
Quality: The press release for this club touts the fact that the combination of a titanium face & steel head greatly improve weight distribution to the back of the head improving trajectory and spin rate. The stock Fujikura shaft is more than adequate for what I needed.

Review Summary: After years of searching, I am no longer afraid to hit the three wood off the fairway. An added bonus is hitting off the box. Off a tee, I average 240 to 250 yards with this club. Your distance may be greater or lesser but the point I want to make is that I'm within 10 to 20 yards of my average distance of my Callaway 454 with a tighter ball flight. I'm now hitting 3 wood off the tee on 4 holes that I had always hit driver on and saving myself strokes doing it. At this time, Tour Edge does not market an Exotics driver. I hope they are working on one!
