On 2006-04-27, Scope rated this Walter Hagen Hybrid 2i and 3i a 5...(6853)

Details: Both 2i and 3i come with gold Aldila Hybrid graphite shafts. 2i - 18 degree loft, and 3i - 21 degree loft. 'Walter Hagen' is a private label, and I believe sold exclusively at Dick's Sporting Goods.

Purchase: With my declining confidence in hitting my fairway woods off the deck (either 5 or 3), I wanted to find out what all of the 'hub-bub' I'd been hearing about hybrid clubs was about. I went to Dick's to take a look at some of them - Nike, Adams, Calloway, etc.. I also tried their private-lable branded hybrids - the Walter Hagen 2i and 3i. They were cheaper than the others ($99), and I felt the most confident visually with these. They felt really good in my hands - Weight and appearence just seemed to suit me. I bought 'em!
Pros: As difficult as it is to measure results hitting off a mat into a net, I made solid center-face contact at the store.. But I was itching to get out on the course with the Hagens. I was able to 'sneak out' that afternoon on my local public course. The 1st hole is a short par 5, with a hard dog-leg right. I hit a nice drive over the corner, and was left with about 200 yards to the green. I took out the Hagen 21 degree 3i, took a swing at it, and with a shot as straight as an arrow - on a lower trajectory (I'm a notorious high-ball hitter) - I ended up pin high left on the 1st cut.. Well, it's been that way ever since - I've played 4 rounds over the last month, and have not so much as mis-hit a single shot with either the 2 or 3 (jinxs!). These give me supreme confidence, and that's what I like the most. Some folks I know have their hybrids to replace the long irons. I don't have any trouble hitting my 3 or 4 irons - But I hit these almost as long as I had hit my fairway woods: 3i equals 190 - 200 and 2i equals 210 - 215. I have my driver - and these two clubs are my new 'fairway woods'..
Cons: There's nothing so far that I don't like about the Walter Hagen Hybrids.
Quality: The Walter Hagen Hybrids seem to me as though they're constructed solidly. I'm not sure who's producing them, but visually they look suspiciously like the Cobra Hybrids I've seen (bafflers?).. very close indeed...hmmmmm.? All the seams look tight, the grips are decent, everything lines up.. I guess we'll see if these things stand the test of time.. So far, so good.

Review Summary: I have confidence standing over the ball with the Walter Hagen Hybrids. I hit the ball straight with them, and almost as long as I had once hit my fairway woods. They look smart, and if you're looking at hybrid clubs and don't mind spending a little less than the top brands (nothing wrong with the big brands to me - this was my 1st private-label club purchase), I would recommend giving these clubs a try!
