On 2007-12-02, DeeFW rated this Wilson Zip a 5...(7971)
Details: White, round, with dimples. Low 0 compression. New ball from Wilson Golf. 3 piece construction.
Purchase: Wilson was having a promotion where you could get a 2 ball sample of their 50/50 balls, or the new Zip. I've played the 50/50, so I picked the Zip. Price was zero, nada. Like they say the ball's compression is. Right price.
Pros: Soft feel. Very soft feel. I got good distance with it too. Right there with most of the other 2 piece balls I play, Top Flite D2 Distance and Feel, Dunlop Loco and Super Loco, Bridgestone e6, Titleist NXT, Callaway Big Bertha. Chipped in for birdie with it on one hole, so that has it going for it. Durable cover. Played 18 holes yesterday. Did not lose either ball which in and of itself for me is good. At the end the ball I used still looked as good as it did when I first opened the little 2 ball sample box. There was one small scuff where I hit a tree with it. Another small place where the cover was shaved off a little from a wedge shot into a green.
Cons: It felt a bit livelier around the green than I would have liked, but that could have been me.
Quality: Round, white, with dimples. Interesting dimple pattern. More flatter, which Wilson says gives the ball a more boring ball flight with greater stability. Ball was quite durable. Small scuff where I hit a tree, and a tiny bit of the cover shaved off from a hard wedge shot into a green. Ball looked as good at the end of the round as it did when I first opened the little 2 ball sample box. Very shiny cover. I thought the ball was a 2 piece construction like the 50/50, but I looked at it on Wilson's web site last night, and it's a 3 piece ball. Not sure of the price, haven't seen them out in the stores yet.
Review Summary: Good ball overall. Easier to control than what I expected from what is supposed to be a 'spinnier' ball. Durability is good. Will I buy another box once they are in the store's? Probably.
